What's everyone up to for the fourth? Anything big? I bet there's going to be some good posts in the food section over the next few days.

I'm loading up the girlfriend and our three collective kids and flying to the East Coast to visit @Maduro Clint and our other brother Brice (@The Inspector...hasn't been active in 8 years, loser).

Crawfish boil tomorrow night followed by days of swimming in Clint's pool, drinking Clint's vodka, eating Clint's food, and smoking Clint's cigars.....ok, I'll bring a few.

But a good time will be had by all, and I'm sure we'll have some good food and cigar pics to share.

Enjoy the 4th everyone!!!!

I bought some fireworks to shoot off though it isn't anything to warn the fire department about. We have some friends passing through so we will stay close to home for the next three days- which the wife is perfectly happy with. Happy 4th of July, all.

Will be flying out tomorrow to the big island with my parents and kids. Fire works are still legal on the big island.

Tomorrow is the annual 4th of July parade in St. Louis put on by the VP organization. The first parade was in 1878. In the old days I rode a mini bike dressed like a clown (and no I don't dress like that everyday) or a small model T car or some other float, but now I have the best job, I run the bar for the other members of our group. Set up is at 7:00 am. We get the Jagermeister girls to deliver the shots and the clowns are all happy by 7:30. After the parade we have a little BBQ lunch, then I fall asleep for the rest of the day.

The next two days just relaxing with a BBQ on the 4th.

They'll be more damn flatlanders around than mosquitos. Bastids can't drive worth a damn; so it's a good day to stay home and have the family visit, if they have a mind to. Got a new WSM smoker that I'm seasoning. So I'll probably cook something on that. Have a few beers, a few margaritas and some expensive scotch. Oh yea, and some cigars.

Working. It's not mandatory but earning double-time and getting a floating holiday to use at a later date to boot sounds good. I plan to grill up some Carne Asada with the family on sunday.

Absolutely no plans. A wide variety of fireworks, aerials, etc. are now legal here, so we may sit out and watch some fireworks, or burning houses, while I smoke a stogie.

Tomorrow will be our first clamming episode of the season, 6 weeks late for us but we just haven't been able to find the time. Obviously tomorrow's dinner will be clams on the half shell followed by linguini and clams in red sauce. Sunday we have a quiet bike ride planned at Hamonasset beach state park and for Monday we're doing a Mexican 4th, fish taco's and margarita's.

Hope everyone enjoys their holiday.

So I miss spoke. The fireworks fell over and started shooting sideways. Things got interesting but luckily our old athletic skills came out of hibernation and allowed us to survive unscathed and also gave my wife the now legitimate ability to poo poo my remaining fireworks plans.

No set plans, it's my bday so we'll probably do my annual family trip to Red Lobster (old tradition....when I was a kid that was the ultimate fancy special occasion dinner), enjoy some cigars and then go to the parking deck of a local casino where you can watch 180 degrees of fireworks displays. I stopped at the fireworks stand this morning to get snakes, smoke bombs, and assorted kid stuff for our 3 year old's first intro to the wonderful world of pyromania. Even though I have a few stashed, I won't be pulling the same joke my dad used to and sneak an M-80 into the rotation.....

Everybody have a safe, happy and relaxing 4th!

Take it from an experience grandfather, little boys love explosions.

A few.

Taking it easy, good ride with friends planned for monday AM, enjoying being home.

No plans. Everything involves walking long distances to get to the base/installation festivities, and I'm not dealing with driving or parking downtown. Hell, I'm not even going to try driving onto Ford Island to watch the fireworks over Pearl Harbor from the tower (which would be awesome this year with all the carriers and foreign ships in port for RIMPAC). I'm getting old, and I'm embracing it.

Kann tell me about fireworks on military bases. Do you see homemade? Do the MP/SP's deter setting off explosives? Does the Artilery types go apeshit? What is it like?

We came to the Big Island to stay at my parents time share for the weekend. Got here this morning and will be here until Wednesday. Mostly a relaxing getaway, go to the pool and beach with the kids and go to a few restaurants.

My wife's family came to visit from Colombia. We have a cook out planned everyday this weekend. Hope you all have fun. Stay safe out there!

Nah, you don't want to get caught setting off fireworks on base (especially right now with the security threats around the world and the RIMPAC exercise going on). And, that's just commercial stuff (which I don't believe you are supposed to have on Oahu, anyway). Anything homemade would probably get you incarcerated for an inconvenient amount of time, at the bare minimum.

There's been enough fireworks on the island this weekend so far with the Apaches getting mission-ready up on Schofield. ;)
