CIGAR COOLER

Hi,
I am new to your community and want to become a positive contributor. To that end I can endorse the cigar coolers I use ... NewAir. I have two (2) ... one smaller and then one larger. When I get a new box of cigars I always put them in the small cooler to begin with for about a month. In this way if there are any "issues"; my larger collection is not affected. I call this my "isolation" system. So far; for now many years, I have caught 1-2 issues among at least 50 boxes. One box had tobacco beetles even with low temperature? The other box had a funny smell. Both were "made right" by the seller and my master storage was not affected.

Tell me what you think of my system?

Tony

Well, I strongly suggest introducing yourself here before posting anything else. Other than that, welcome to CP.

Hi Tony,

No one can argue with your “system” based on your results... I do the same thing, since I only collect cuban cigars, and have had a few issues in the past (mainly with custom rolls, which I now freeze prior to putting into my isolation cabinet)

I believe you will find a wealth of information here, with quite a few of us collecting for over 25 years or more...

hi,

thanks for the reply. you are correct i am interested in gaining and sharing good information on this site.

i have heard of the freezing technique with the proviso that the defrost must be carefully controlled or the compression state of the finished cigar may be comprised as cigars do have a necessary "tension".

hi,

thanks for the reply. of course we want to ferret out shadow advertising. thanks for that insight. in no way am i affiliated with newair. simply, found a good product, applied my version of a system, and obtained desired results that are repeatable. that simply constitutes a "personal recommendation"

I tend to obsess about my cigars (just a bit 😊) The only time I freeze cigars is IF I have custom rolls from Cuba, and the way I do it is to Double (gallon zip) bag them, make sure you seal them very well, put into refrigerator for 3 days, into freezer (at lowest temp possible) for 24 hours, then back to the fridge for 3 days, then (still in zip bag) into humidor for 3 to 4 days, then back to box (which is stored open in your humidor to maintain moisture) then I let acclimate for at least a month before smoking...
