I learned to drive in a '68 International Harvester Scout. Manual transmission, metal dashboard that would bruise a knee cap without much effort. Felt like a curse at 16 especially when trying to take a nap in the back in August heat between 2 a day football practices.... I digress.

So Ford announced the return of the Bronco this July. It's the 6th generation. I made a reservation and the launch by Ford so far is FUBAR. But, still like the look. Drove the Ranger and was pleasantly surprised by the 2.3 liter and the interior room. The Ranger was a 4 door but I will be getting a 2 door Bronco. Still debating between the various trim levels.

Granted this is a sentimental choice. IH Scouts are higher than giraffe vaginas now and not interested in chasing parts for maintenance.

Anyone else looking at the Bronco 6G?

Ford knocked this out of the park. If they don't make a serious dent in JL sales, maybe even overtake the numbers for a year or two, I'll be surprised. If I were in the market for a new vehicle, I'd be thinking seriously about a new Bronco.

392 Rubicon is begging for my money

If that starts less than $69,000 I will be pleasantly surprised. I applaud FCA for finally coming through with that one, though, even if it was as a response to Ford and the Bronco.

In the "Things I Don't Need for $500, Alex" category, I love the RAM Dodge TRX. I really like the Raptor, too. If I had stupid disposable income for a ridiculously overbuilt vehicle, I'd probably go with the TRX, just because the TRX speaks to me just a little bit more (most likely because I already own a Dodge Ram). Even with the price difference between the two, I doubt that the TRX is going to steal any of the Raptor's business -- Ford people gonna Ford; Dodge people gonna Dodge.

My truck is an '02 Chevrolet 2500. The only new vehicle I ever bought was a Ford F150 when Ford introduced the 4 door F150. It was a good truck. I like diesel and when Ford had the issues with is 6.0, shifted to Chevy.

Understanding I am in the minority, I view Jeeps and Broncos as not being substitutes one for the other. I guess I think of SUV's as falling more into a truck category that does not suit Jeeps.

I am undecided on the trim levels. Really want to keep the price down, so thinking of just buying a base model and adding to it as time/money allow.

Maaaaaaaaaaaan, I have been on an International Harvester Scout kick for a few months now. Damn, I love those trucks. They are just so simple and clean compared to anything out there currently. Too bad for even a decent one you're going have to do stuff that would make a porn star blush.

I bought my 2005 Dodge Ram new in '05, and 15 years later I still love the thing. I'm not planning on getting rid of it for a new car payment, but if I did (and if I was in the US mainland), I'd strongly consider the new Bronco. I agree that for the most part the Bronco and the Wrangler are different machines for different purposes, but Ford is really shooting for JL marketshare with this thing. They are really designing it to be a Jeep competitor in all aspects. I haven't seen a comparable Bronco side by side with a JL yet, but I'm pretty sure the Bronco is bigger in stature. It sounds like it is going to be equal or better in capability, though. That said, I'm sure that most of these will get about as much off-road use as a Jeep does from the majority of buyers.

I think the travel that Jeeps get, especially the 4 doors now through the sway bar disconnects, are something that sets them apart. I'd love to have one of the new 4 door Broncos, but I have a hard time buying something the first year, it's released.

Yeah, for those that are using it hardcore off-road, I'll definitely give you that. I think the JL even has auto discos now, doesn't it? That's a huge plus. I wouldn't buy a first year Bronco, either, to be honest.

Yep, the Rubicon has a sway bar disco switch. The X/Sport/Sahara, you have to install after market disconnects, that you have to manually disco.

The Badlands version of the new Bronco has sway bar disconnects. But being honest, I have no idea what it means or why I need them.

My last SUV, which was before there were SUVs, was the Scout. I just remember the manual lock hubs and the dashboard that busted knee caps.

Intresting video on how the system works. I had to look it up when I first heard about an automatic sway bar disconnect.

That's a great video and explanation on how it works. Typically you won't need to disco your sway bars, if you aren't off roading.

Good video. Thanks

Bronco have about 8 trim levels: Base, Big Bend, Black Diamond, Outer Banks, Badlands, Wild Track and a "First Edition" that is limited production.

The base starts at 28K. First Edition is over 60K. The Black Diamond and Badlands come with rubber floors and marine vinyl seats. I have dogs so this is appealing. Part of me thinks by the Base stripped down and just fix it up aftermarket. But no washout interior. The Badlands seem to be the most popular trim so far, but its in the mid-40's.

My off-roading will be timber roads, muddy trails and beaches. If I were still in Colorado rock riding might happen but not sure I have the terrain around Atlanta. While this will be only the second new vehicle I have ever owned, I try to think of resale value so not sure if the Badlands with the disconnecting sway bars is the better choice.

Hell, Ford is FUBARing this launch so I have time. Was going to go old school with a manual transmission until the reality hit me the other day sitting in Atlanta traffic.

I do like the looks of the truck. Drove a Ranger for comparison since none are out to test drive (it is built on the Ranger platform). Ranger drove nice, had nice space in the cab and that was with the 4 cylinder engine. I will get the turbo 6.

The real decision may be the rubber interior. I have a 10 month old Pyrenese puppy who gets car sick. That wash out interior has a real appeal.

Not the same, but I've pulled the carpet out of every Jeep I've owned and bed lined the interior. It's much easier to pull the drain plugs and wash it down......especially with kids/dogs and mud/dirt. What I'm really looking for, is an old FJ62 Landcruiser and would love a 5 speed.......hell I even looked for a 5 speed Jeep Wrangler, but the wife bitched about not being able to drive a stick and being too old to learn. As far as packages, you're right. You could always get a few things that you want, then just after market add on.

I'd love to see what you get, when it arrives.

Oh, FJ's are pure gold...cased in Platinum, and filled with Bitcoin.

Would totally blow my load to get a hold of one to resto. Or even an older G Wagon.

You and I both think alike!
