Back in the day, before they were a household name in cigars, CAO produced pipe tobacco and to my surprise, Humidors. Handmade in the good old US of A in the great state of Tennessee they were beautiful examples of American woodworking and craftsmanship.
As the brand transitioned to cigars and at the beginning of the tobacco boom of the 90’s the humidors dropped off. I’m not sure why, I don’t remember if there was an explanation in my historical research, but by the late 70’s/early 80’s the custom handmade pieces stopped.

Thankfully, eBay exists! I found this prime example with the original CAO foam humidifiers included and from what I could see in the photos, in phenomenal shape for being 35-40 years old.
With a bright red cherry finish showing off an immaculate wood grain the humidor still catches the eye and draws you in. I have yet to find a current day Humidor that matches this one in form and functionality, especially considering the price you’d pay.

It has two removable top trays that hold 15-18 sticks each, and a bottom “basket” that holds 50-60 sticks, double stacked and size dependent. I installed a twin pack wooden Boveda holder on the bottom of the lid, and under the basket placed a 320g pack for humidification.
It took almost a month to season with distilled water, and has held consistently 68-69% RH on the Govee Hygrometer, regardless of seasons here in Vegas. Which is phenomenal.
Honestly, I’m blown away by how good this Humidor truly is. Also, I have no idea what the interior wood is for this model, as it’s not Spanish cedar or African Mahogany. The grain patterns aren’t right for either, again based on my limited knowledge.

Inside I have my collections of: Tatuaje, Liga Privada, Avo, and 1502 XO along with an assortment of somewhat rare cigars and a few limited releases from Viaje, Sinistro, Crowned Heads, and Cavalier.

This is my favorite piece of Cigar/Tobacco history and cigar storage. And the smell when you open it is devine!

Enjoy!

@wrussell46 always a joy your posts. Also nice space management aswell. I always end up overstocked having play a game of tetris to fit everything inside. Have you tried those avo improvisations 2022 before? The white piano key was more popular here.

Thanks brother! 20+ years in the Air Force and I have some detail oriented tendencies! I can't have things out of order or looking like a mess...I am constantly rearranging, structing, organizing. Makes it fun as well.

The Avo Improv 22 were both fantastic cigars. The White is brilliant, an absolute superb cigar. The Black is good, but lighter in flavor and body than I expected as a darker wrapper.
I have the line up of the Improv series from 17-22 which I am quite proud of. The 2017 was very hard to find, and I stumbled across one in a sampler pack at a local shop. I couldn't believe it!
