So I play poker once in a while, and I watch it on TV sometimes. I would love to play in a World Series of Poker event, but it would be a hard sell to the wife. Well I got to opportunity to play in a WSOP Circuit event when the WSOP came to Durant, OK. This is withing driving distance so myself and indieangler and Bond decided to make the trip and buy into a ring event. It was a long grueling 2 day event, but I managed to come in 37th place out of about 940. The last hand I flopped top set, and was called by a flush draw. He hit the flush and I was gone. I was very disappointed because I felt this would probably be my only shot at a WSOP event. It was an amazing run though. I nursed a short stack the whole time and was fortunate to go as far as I did.

A couple weeks later I see the WSOP is in Tunica, MS. This is also within driving distance, so we 3 decided to take another run at it. This field was much smaller with a little over 400 players, but I managed to make the final table of 10. I didn't have a lot of chips and moved all in with AQ. I got called by A10 and he ran out on me. I was done. I couldn't believe it. I was so surprised that I made another deep run in the WSOP event I thought surely I could win. After that we are so bummed that we go play a small event at a local casino. I am playing like a mad man, but somehow manage to win that tourney. It was a pretty fun experience, and hopefully I will get a chance to play in another World Series event in the future.

Here is a picture of the field. This is just the main room. They had 3-4 rooms going when it started!

Here I am with my try hard pants on.

Here is the victory smoke. A Padron 40th. Nice way to finish up the day.

Come a long way since that cancerous backroom game in KC :p

Sounds like you had a great time. I play in a monthly game, 5 couples alternating houses, good times had by all. The wives are as good as any of the husbands. We spend an hour drinking and eating app's and play twice around the table and then have desert. We started about three years ago playing with chips but there was more conversation than game so now we play with little and big blind (5cent and 15 cents) with a raise limit of 25 cents. We tried anti's but no one could keep track. We don't spend a lot of money, the most I've lost is about $15 and have won about $20. Best of all two other guys smoke cigars so the three of us start at least an hour and a half early with a good stick. I've always wanted to try a real tournament but have yet to get up the balls. Its good to hear you did well in both the events you entered.
Best of luck.

That's awesome! Those are pretty deep runs in both WSOP events you attended. Nothing you can do against flush draws, if the guy wants to gamble. Surprised the A10 called you though if you guys were pretty even in chips.

If you don't mind sharing, what were the buy in's for those two WSOP events? Would love to play in Vegas but I think the cheapest No Limit Hold Em event is still 2500. That's pretty steep.

Seen Ted Forest, Phil Ivey, and bunch of other people play live cash games. They always take Larry Flynt's money. Pretty funny actually.

Great job! And nice smoke! I played some hold em last night myself with some friends. Lost 10 bucks... damn! A far cry from the WSOP but still was a lot of fun.

You went a lot further than most people and a great cigar to finish it out.

I saw they were having that event in Durant and wanted to check it out but I totally forgot about it. Oh well...sounds like you had a good time. Did you place in the money at all? I'm guessing with 900 people you at least got your buy-in back...

Yeah the buy-ins were $350 for each WSOP ring event that I played. That was the smallest buy-in tournament they had. Yeah I made the money in both tournaments. Nothing crazy, but it is always nice to make the money! Most of all it was just a cool experience, that I really enjoyed.
