Hello everyone. I'm was looking into getting the internet only Verizon FIOS 150Mbps.

Has anybody here been using a different router than the one provided from Verizon? If so, which one are you using or recommend? I want to purchase my own instead of paying $10 a month for theirs (I prefer a wired router, not wireless). One of the reasons I want to do this is because I want to have a different Wifi setup (About 3 POE Ubiquiti UniFi access points) so it wouldn't make sense to use their wireless router anyway. Another reason is that I will have internet only, no TV or phone service so I won't be using the coaxial port of their router.

Thanks for any help or suggestions!

Something I learned the hard way, with Fios you have to use their router. I have a two access point home setup and it took forever to figure out that the only way I could get my NetGear router to work was by keeping the Fios one plugged in.

Netgear makes a quality router, but there have been 2-3 new ones come out with kick azz specs and recommendations from the tech guys. Suggest you check out Google. Your looking at $150-250 range.

Check this out, might help.

Thank you for the suggestion, I would prefer a non-wireless router. I'm cabling the whole house with CAT6 and everything will be terminated in the basement, this is another reason for not wanting a wireless router which would also act as a gateway. I have been searching on google but was interested to see if anyone here was already using this type of setup.

Are you using internet only or do you also have TV and phone with them? When I spoke to rep. from Verizon to setup my installation date, she told me that because I was only using internet, if I had my own router I wouldn't need to use the one provided by them.

That may be the case. I don't know. I have tv, phone and Internet.

Yes, that is the case, if you use TV then you need the coaxial which connects to your Verizon router. If you do not have TV then you can use the optical network terminal ethernet port.

Just an update.

For the router/gateway I decided to go with this Ubiquiti Networks Edgerouter Lite 3Port Router https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00HXT8EKE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s02?ie=UTF8&psc=1 it seems to be powerful enough for what I need it for.

For the wireless routers I went with 3 of these Ubiquiti Networks Unifi 802.11ac Dual-Radio PRO Access Point https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015PRO512/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I will update you next month when I install and test everything.

Here are some other random things that will go into this network:
- HP ProCurve 1810G-24 Switch - FREE - I took this out of the network at my job about a year ago because the warranty expired and we were upgrading to something newer, it should be good for now until I could upgrade to something else.
- Cable Matters Rackmount or Wallmount 24-Port Cat6 RJ45 Patch Panel https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0072K1OWY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
- Cat6, 550 MHz, Shielded, 23AWG, 8C Solid Pure Copper, CMR, 1000ft https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005JDE6NK/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
