So, a friend of mine was at some Gurkha event last night and told me how he held a Gurkha HMR.....I've never heard of this cigar. I looked it up this morning and couldn't believe what I found out!

Could this possibly be worth it? $750/stick??? Anyone have one/ever had one?

Edit: Spelling

The words "most expensive cigar" and "Gurkha" aren't normally in the same sentence unless they are joined by a negative.

:D

BELIEVE ME, that's EXACTLY what I was thinking! I even found a comparison between the HMR and the CGR!!!!!! THAT was comedy!

It's just a regular crap Ghurka made for their Las Vegas market. They figure there's a drunk sucker who wins in the Casino every minute that needs to buy a Rolex, and the most expensive cigar he can find.

If I remember correctly the most expensive Gurkha on the market is the Black Dragon at $1150 a stick.. :whistling:

That makes perfect sense.

Plenty of cigars more expensive than that ;D

This might just be me....being new to cigars and all. But regardless of HOW the cigar tastes......there is no way it would be "worth" $750. I just couldn't justify it personally. That's crazy.

Trust me...you are not alone. $749.99 maybe, but $750...that's my cutoff point. But seriously, an exhorbitant price differs for each indiviudal. It all depends on the level of utility each individual derives from a particular cigar, and how much that experience is worth to them. For some that threshold may peak at $20, for some $150 and others $1,000. I'm sure there is a market for this kind of stuff, especially in Vegas. If nothing else...bragging rights also help with marketing, and Ghurka is a marketing machine...

Now, what would you rather have:

1 Gurkha HMR
or
1 box of Opus X Double Coronas (32 cigars) and a few nice bottles of wine, scotch, bourbon, tequila etc...

I think the OP of that thread was asking about a comparison between the Gurkha HMR and a Gurkha Grand Reserve, not the Cohiba Grand Reserva since he mentions the cigars having similar filler with a $730 price difference.

Most expensive cigars I buy are...

God of Fire

Padron 80

Opus X Reserva D' Chateau

And they don't break the bank, and are (IMHO) worth the money.

There are even sticks that are half the price of those that are so very good.

Data to back up my post :p

Gurkha Black Dragon - $1,150 The most expensive cigar of the list is the first production of Gurkha Black Dragon. Only five hand carved camel bone chests of one hundred cigars. The cigar comes in one size, 8.5” by 52. One chest can be yours for $115,000. The second released “similar” blend is $10 to $15 a stick.

Oh yeah... hell, put some age on a Padrón 2000 and it will rock your world.

Actually, I was referring to the Cohiba GR. While searching that Gurkha, I found an article about someone comparing the HMR to the Cohiba GR. I laughed. Hard.

Edit: I misread your post, Shamrocker.
