I am pretty much a hack myself, but have found that the softer grips feel like they twist in my hands whenever I hit one off-center. I like the corded grips, with an extra layer of tape inside to slightly thicken the grip. BTW, are you going to grip them yourself?

I like the NC Partagas Black bands. The double bands like the 1916 Cameroon from Torano and the Double Ligero from La Flor D are cool, albeit double the pain to remove when you are driving a 5-speed in rush hour traffic.
