Monte #4's suffer the same problem as many high volume hand made commodities... inconsistency. That's why I prefer the more specialized low volume marca's where the rollers wait until the right tobaccoo is available and ready before the stick is produced.
If they were harsh to you, then let them rest a few months and try another until they smooth out enough for your tastes. I tend to like them well aged myself, but others like them fresh. Smoke what you like and like what you smoke.
Yes, I have seen the FIM factory code also in 2005. As far as the the BBF's go I would go with 07 or 08 stock rather than the 2005 which tend to be somewhat bland.
No more Partagas Connies 1,2, or 3 and no more Punch Selection No 11 & 12. That's just plain wrong. These are outright deletions and not just reductions in packaging. It is so sad to see this continuing trend.
If you got another one, you might try and dry box it for few days before you smoke it. This might improve the draw and burn since it sounds like the stick may have been on the moist side and cubans smoke better in the low sixties RH.
I wouldn't worry too much about the missing barcodes as some distributors don't want HSA to know they are supplying vendors outside their offical distribution territory. The ultimate test is to smoke them. Enjoy!

If you can handle the sticker shock, the LCDH will have the real deal, but I would stay away from any aother sources since fakes are rampant in Mexico.
