    Aberlour 16yo Double Cask Matured

Aberlour 16yo Double Cask Matured, $60 for 750 ml I'm out on a business trip which was supposed to be short, so I bought the only decent looking 375ml I could find, which was Dewar's 12yo. Then I found out the trip will be at least a week long, so I went back this morning and bought a 750ml of...

    My New Addiction

Congratulations and welcome to the Brotherhood of the Briar!! You'll slowly work out the kinks with time, but you'll love it all the way ;)

    What's in your pipe today?

Mac Baren's Scottish Mixture -- Just opened 4 oz that was packed with a seal-a-meal about 5 years ago. The vaccuum compressed it so hard that, as it lost some moisture, it turned into a solid irregular brick. I broke it up into almond shell sized pieces. Just rubbed some out and I gotta say...

    Smoking a pipe.

I smoke both pipes and cigars. It just depends on my mood at the moment, like choosing to sip on a shot of scotch or of bourbon. I don't inhale either of them, I get enough nicotine absorbed in my mouth. To me, pipe smoking seems a little more gentlemanly, but I'm not sure why. I certainly...

    The Balvenie 21 yo PortWood

I tried this as part of a The Belvanie sampler that had 3 50 ml bottles, one of the 21 yo Portwood, one of 15 yo Single Barrel and one 12 yo Doublewood. I think I paid $12 at a liquor store. I enjoyed all three tremendously, but the Portwood was most satisfying. I bought the sampler twice...

    Bourbon Documentary

Nice video, thanks. They even mentioned my personal favorite, Buffalo Trace

    Two questions.....

Whenever I buy a pipe with a filter in it, I toss the filter as soon as I get home. If your tobacco is too moist and the pipe starts go gurgle, you can run a pipe cleaner in even while the tobacco is still burning and that should soak up most of the moisture. As with slcraiders post, I store...

    Ashy taste

You're tamping, right? You might want to try stirring the very top of the tobacco/ash layer that is burning. It doesn't take much, and then tamp. You can use the spoon part of your pipe tool, but sometimes I'm too lazy to pull the spoon away from the rest of it so I just push the ash/tobacco...

    What's in your pipe today?

This afternoon I had a bowl of McLelland's St. James Woods. This evening it was Balkan Sasieni. Ahhhhh!

How to select a cheap pipe

I second all that was said above. The main thing is that you like it. Some basket pipes are smaller than average. My dublin is such a pipe, but it is the very best pipe I have for smoking Va/Perique blends. I don't know what it is but those blends just party in that pipe! And I only paid...

    Buffalo Trace Bourbon

I bought a bottle of Buffalo Trace a couple of weeks ago, after I finished my Knob Creek. I aparently got a great deal at about $15. This bourbon is delicious and incredibly satisfying. I usually sip it straight, but had it with ice once or twice. I like this better than Knob Creek; there's...

The great thing about pipe tobacco is, you can get the best tinned tobacco for about the same price as a nice stogie. Go to www.jrcigar.com and order a couple tins of McClelland tobacco, like Frog Morton (sounds wierd but I've never read a post by someone who didn't like it) and Deep Hollow.

    What's in your pipe today?

This afternoon I smoked some McClelands Deep Hollow in a no-name Dublin. I am about to light up my favorite: Harvest Cut "Fine Burleys blended with Virginias & Turkish tobaccos pressed to marry their flavors, then sliced in long cut mocha strips. Manufactured in Denmark." from my local B&M.

    Proper name pronunciations

OK, now let me ask a dumb question: "Opus Ten" or "Opus Ecks"?

Getting to know pipe smokers on the web...

It is possible that some of the customers you've lost have started leaning towards the tinned tobaccos like the ones mentioned above. If you begin to carry a shelf full of them, you may regain those customers and then some. Personally, I never buy those bulk aromatics. It certainly won't...

    Damn! 11 years!

Congratulations Mark, I wish you many more years. geldor1 -- amazing coincidence: I had my 50th birthday on the 23rd, so was born the same day your parents were married! My wife and I have been married for 14 1/2 years now. It's been tough at times since we have both made unloving goofs, but...

    Balkan Sobranie Pipe Tobacco.....

Wow Mitch, you have some amazing knowledge of blending  Did you used to work in a tobacco shop or are you just a highly educated customer?

    Replacement Stems?

Ask your tobacco shop. Recently the stem of one of my favorite pipes broke in my checked luggage. I took it to my local B&M shop, and they sent it to their repair guy. I got it back in a couple of weeks with a new stem for about $15.

    Mayorga

Haven't tried the HO yet, but have smoked both the EMS and maduro in toro or robusto, and I enjoy them. For the money I think they are a decent cigar. I also made a recent purchase at JR and got the Angel 100's free. These are really nice.

    beginner questions.

Above all, as the hobits regarded pipe smoking vis-a-vis their friend Treebeard, "don't be hasty". Relax and enjoy your new hobby. It takes time to work out the art of smoking a pipe. You have years of searching for your favorite blend ahead of you, and this is all part of the pleasure!
