The Wife and I spent last Sunday in Talkeetna, Alaska...a beautiful blue sky day in the mid-70s, which is sweltering for us thick-blooded folk. While there, we took the “deluxe tour” of the Denali Brewery. Founded in 2009, they are now the second largest brewery in the state, behind the Alaskan Brewing Co. in Juneau. Great tour, several tastings, a charcuterie plate, and some swag made for a great day.

I came away with a growler of their seasonal Kölsch style beer and this beauty:

One Tree Birch Beer, 750 ml, 9.1% ABV

Not a hard root-type beer, this is a Belgian style golden ale, with local birch syrup added after brewing. Just enough sweetness to balance the rye grain and hops nicely.

Figures I’d miss that, but we were in Danali in 2008. Good for you scoring.
