I have to ask if you guys really think having some of the vilest things I've seen said online quoted in your signatures is going to help you convince Rod to bring it back?

I miss chat too, even if I didn't use it all that often it was fun yacking with you guys.

And some of the things said (who saves logs of such banter to begin with ??? ) that are turning up now as sig quotes were a very small part of went on in there, but taken out of context, they reflect badly on CP and do your cause to have the Chatroom returned a large amount of harm.

Something to ponder...

Shawn

*edit* to solidify my thoughts into words a bit better

And all of the sig tags taken from the forums are all smiles and roses?

I'm not sure what your ultimate goal is sir. You have been on a relentless attack of the poker forum, and now you are coming after chat. Chat is already gone from this site, and according to Rod it's not coming back. You win.

Edit: Wurm did in fact defend poker, and I was mistaken about that.

I respectfully ask that you enjoy the parts of this community that you enjoy, and you allow the rest of us to enjoy the parts of the community that we enjoy. There is no reason to attack us for asking Rod to restore a part of this site that a 2% portion of us enjoy. I have made many a good friend through the chatroom, and while yes, there are sometimes topics that make even me uncomfortable, there are many more topics that have furthered my cigar and life educations. Chat has also generated pass, trades, and fellowship which in my opinion makes it a quality part of this community.

No one has been wronged in the chatroom, no one has welched on their debts in there, no chat "pros" come in and abuse the generosity of other members, and no one has been ever been called out in public for something that has happened in chat as far as I can remember.

If you don't believe me because of my newbness, you can feel free to ask the longtime, established, and much more respected members who take part in chat on a regular basis.

All those chat people are trouble makers and should be thrashed within an inch of their lives!

I have cultivated, or enhanced several friendships in chat. That is several I didn't have when I first came here, and several I probably never would have made otherwise. For that, I am thankful.

1) Bullshit. I did nothing but defend the Poker game here at CP and will continue to do so in the future.

2) And I haven't attacked Chat once. I miss it as well.

3) Read what I wrote again. And then look at a few of your Chat brothers sigs. In fact I'll make it easy for you.

This is from Josh's sig.

[ELittle] 10:15 pm: ill let a girl piss on me, but only if its in the shower

[ELittle] 1:36 am: hey, anyone that doesnt smoke crack is just scared of being cool

[ELittle] 10:13 pm: is the word kindergarten german for baby camp or something?

[tomthirtysix] 3:43 pm: leave it to the chatroom to pass off the 14 year old chick with liver failure as a weak drinker

[actin4life] 4:58 pm: I'm still recovering from the face f*cking

["K"] 2:22 pm: i'm sticky
["K"] 2:22 pm: but not sexy

[Josh] 5:27 pm: What was in the flask?
[Seanholio] 5:27 pm: horse jizz. It's a long story

I know that this isn't what gets said or talked about in the Chat room all the time, in fact its only a small part of it.

ITS YOU GUYS (with some of you having the sigs longer than most of your posts), that are showing it out of context. And why some of you think the rest of us want to read such vile crap everytime you post is beyond me.

4) Rod didn't say it wasn't coming back. He said when a more stable version of the software with a much smaller footprint is released he would more than likely re-enable it.

So instead of pointing fingers at me why don't you answer my question?

What is the purpose of being able to save chats anyway? That is one of the reasons I rarely go in there anymore. I'd hate to say something and then have it plastered all over the place or behind the scenes.

No logs are saved. Something funny is said, copy/paste and then I head over to "edit signature." You make it sound as if we spend our nights reading pages and pages of chat logs in search of something funny.

I'm sorry, but I'm with Shawn on this one. We're all big boys and can handle the language, but I'm seldom in a position to NOT share the screen with either my coworkers or my family. I just can't hang with it any longer. I adamantly support that we should conduct ourselves as ladies and gentlemen here, including chat. However, I would like to see Rod bring it back. I think it could be kept a bit more civilized.

I looked forward to it during the week.
I looked forward to it on the weekend.

I will miss chat.

To all the great guys and gals I met on chat..., I bid
you farewell...., well at least in chat. :)

Jack

eh im cool with hanging out in IRC, and we'll keep it "toned down in cp chat" if that's the request of the majority, besides i haven't enabled sigs at work for along time, not because of the language but becuase of the half naked/full naked women displayed in them, imo much easier to notice then someones text sigs.

Oh I forgot to add: GOATS

Maybe I'm misinterpreting Rod's reason for getting rid of chat, but I thought I'd post it again in really big letters just in case people still think chat is gone because of issues of content or users:

Chat is a huge drain on resources that Rod does wish to continue supporting or fixing every time the site goes down because of it.

Chat is a drain on resources just like I am for using such big letters like above.

It has to be said - some guys would sig conversations like and then wonder why questions are being asked. Go figure.

Gonz,

We know that's the reason Rod said it's gone. And none of the chatters have a problem with that reason. The biggest problem that I (and others as well) have is that Chat is being viewed as some problematic source of drama on the board, particularly with the ongoing poker issues. More than once has chat been lumped together with poker as being a source of problems, and we don't understand why.

Wow.

Sig tags, etc are not even close to smiles and roses. Part of me thinks everyone should be able to post about golden showers and drinking horse sperm, but the fact is is does effect how others with feel about the site as well as the members.

It is perception. My wife is now done asking me if I am looking up porn on my computer and just states, "Oh, your on the cigar site again." When she see bouncing titties or one of Matt's gimp outfits. I read it as Shawn was missing chat and stating his opinion that by making some changes in the sig tags, the perception of chat by the community would change, in a more favorable light. Nobody won, Shawn would like back also.

I also think the sig tags effect the perception of chat. For example, when you hear the name Grateful1, you probably think about bouncing implants etc. That' a perception of Gary. When I read the sig tage Wurm posted, I now think Elittle like golden showers and Seanholio may have wacked off a horse in his flask. In addition, it is also a clip from the chat room, so that must be what is talked about in there.

I haven't had time lately, but LOVED talking stupid in chat with Rob and others. I was happy letting it happen behind closed doors and then pubilc won't interject thier opinions and generalizations on your chat group.

Wilkey out.

I have never used chat so I don't have an opinion either way about it as a function of CP but Bruce is right here and so was Shawn. Forget the debate about sig tags being lude, crude, ignorant, etc. They simply aren't funny or entertaining except for the people who were there at the time. It's like one of those "you had to be there" moments that isn't funny except to the people who were there.......so why make it public?

That made me laugh out loud......in a place where my laugh drew a few looks........so no more funny pictures either ;)

Wurm-

1. You are correct, you did defend the poker room. I was wrong on that.
2. I read your initial post here as pointing the finger at the chat room as being a vile, disgusting place not worthy of being re-instated.
3. I did, and I agree that some of it is in poor taste, but I also see just as much from some of the sig tags from stuff posted on the forum. I stand by that.
4. I'm getting a different feeling recently from Rod, correctly or not, that he feels chat is more of burden than a benefit. If I were betting, I would guess chat will never be back on CP.

I recently had a couple of quotes in my sig tag from chat that while I didn't feel they were offensive (and still don't) I have gladly removed them to help others feel more at ease. If others feel those things contribute a problem, then I am glad to remove them than to fight with you or anyone else I respect for that matter.

I apologize to you sir for accusing you of something you didn't do. I miss chat on here alot, as I was a regular in there. I wish it would come back, but if it doesn't, those of us that enjoyed it are working on other solutions. I understand that is was taken down because of the fact that it was a resource hog, and I'm okay with that. I guess I just don't want people thinking that it was eliminated because it was creating drama or detracting from the site.

Shawn: I agree that using profane sigtags isn't appropriate, be they quotes from chat or some other picture/text that would get me reprimanded if my boss saw it. I have also asked people to keep me out of sigtags and logs they posted and never had a problem with people complying. I don't really have a horse in that race, much like the debate on allowing half naked women as avatars or sigtags.

I do feel, however, that the overall contention we have over chat recently is being misunderstood as a debate over whether the chat interface should be reimplemented. I personally have no problem with Rod removing flashchat. I flat out don't like it, think it is a resource hog and a clunky interface to boot. What I have a problem with is people bringing it into non-related discussions on other sensitive issues. There is nothing similar about chat and the poker room in regards to the practices that go on there. In a thread where debating if someone is a profiteer and a sycophant on the community chat randomly gets brought in, as if the members there are of the same lot and the same problems occur there. It just doesn't make sense to me. If people have a problem with the content of chat that is one thing, but I don't see why it should be mentioned in the same breath as a discussion about people failing to pay debts and profiteering.

And some of the things said (who saves logs of such banter to begin with ??? ) that are turning up now as sig quotes were a very small part of went on in there, but taken out of context, they reflect badly on CP and do your cause to have the Chatroom returned a large amount of harm.

No logs are saved. Something funny is said, copy/paste and then I head over to "edit signature." You make it sound as if we spend our nights reading pages and pages of chat logs in search of something funny.

I seem to remember a log or two being posted not too long ago. Maybe it was copy/paste work, but it was extensive.

I've been in chat a few times and for the most part it's a good deal of fun. It's the tidbits like those posted that I think a lot of people have problems with. If you want to talk like that in chat, feel free.

If there's something said in chat that wouldn't/shouldn't be said in the open areas of CP, then it shouldn't be put into signatures. If there were posts made with that subject matter it would be summarily chastised, as it should be.

Yes, there are other signatures that are not really something I want to see. However, pointing out others' bad behavior to justify one's own bad behavior doesn't really work. Just because Johnny does it, doesn't mean that Joey should.

I don't mind chat at all. If there's a better solution found then let it come back. Though I have let loose in there a couple of times in the past (language-wise), if it does come back in the future I'll conduct myself as I do in the open forums.
