Good point regarding high temps...I guess all I could do here is not keep ultra premium sticks and just a small amount (like up to a half dozen) to minimize losses if they get screwed up.
It would be handy to always have a handful of cigars in my vehicle but not something that needs alot of attention (with regards to monitering humidity). Would an otterbox be the best solution? How do they hold humidity if you only check it every few weeks? Thanks.
I own both a Palio and Xikar. They both work about equally well. I prefer the looks and feel of the Xikar, but on the downside they sometimes fall apart as the screws can loosen and fall out. Xikar does stand behind their product though. You cant go wrong with either imho.
I have a box from Dec 06 as well. They've been well rested in my coolidoor for several months at about 62% and they are smokin damn fine. By far the best young Cuban I've had, perfect draw on every single one. I can't recall but they did rest several months (if not a half year) before crackin...
I've yet to encounter a plugged Partagas, and I've smoked them as many as any other brand...if anything, they've been undefilled. I've smoked only 2003-2006 era.
As nervous as I can be about this, I just can not bring myself to freeze a box of cigars...I feel there is a greater chance of me ruining the smokes than getting beetles.
As an update...I don't think I've had shrinkage problems just not enough water and beads to offset the low humidity here in winter time. I've since added a big bag of 65% beads and she's climbed up to 63% which is just right.
When I first got into this I used to check my humi several times daily...it wasn't so much for checking the humidity as it was about lookin at my sticks, there is just something about the site of a neatly packed humidor that I can't get enough of. Thanks to extensive therapy I got it down to...
Right now I'm on my 3rd Rochefort 10 of the night...only dissapointing thought is it's all downhill from here. I can't believe some of you were underwhemed by Westvleteren...that's as perfect as a beer can get, imho.
