I would personally recommend a German Shorthaird Pointer. Normally they are used as hunting dogs, yet they make great family pets, and fulfill the protective qualities that you seek. My family got one when I had just turned 3 years old, and 15 years later she is still going strong. They respond...

I recieved 3 in May as an early graduation present. I tried to smoke one, and it kicked my noob butt...I was on the couch for an hr or so trying to sleep it off haha I thought it was pretty good though. Im deff gunna let the other 2 age for a long time...

Suposedly Artest and Odom are pretty good friends and go pretty far back. Hopefully this will make Odom stick around the Lakers for a few more seasons at least. The Lakers know that they need him, and considering they just lost Ariza, I think their gunna do quite a bit to keep Odom around
