My girlfirend just got me a bottle of the black label! But I've nere had JW before. What are the differences between the other lables?

It's Johnnie with an IE not a Y ;) The link from badhangover is good plus I've done reviews on the Black, Gold, Green and Blue label Johnnie Walkers if you want to read them.. The Black label is the largest selling premium blended scotch in the world for a reason.

Here's the link to their site:

Of all the JW's, Green label is the only one I'd consider drinking. A decent vatted malt at a fair value. However, I prefer its ingredient malts on their own merits. At $40-$50 a bottle though, Green label is a nice diversion.
Spelling is not my strong point ??? . Thnaks for the input. I'm definatly going to check out those reviews.

Speaking of Johnnie Walker, I was looking on their website the other day, and I noticed that there was absolutely no mention of the Green Label. I too enjoy the Green Label very much. Is it going away? Should I stock up?

JW Black is my favorite every day pour based on my somewhat limited experiance. It is hard to beat @ the $25-$30/bottle price range. I had Green recently and enjoyed it as well, and in my opinion Red is sub-par.

The Green Label is still shown on most of the JW website just not in the www.johnniewalker.com US selected one for some reason. It's a good seller for them and isn't going away AFAIK.

I have found, when comparing all the JW's and prices, that the Black Label is the best value. Red is fine, but for a small dollar amount more you get a hell of a lot more taste and a great glass of scotch. Then I personally find that moving up into the Green Gold and Blue you get a very marginal taste difference for the extra amount you are paying. Not that all three of those are not very good! I keep a bottle of Black for every day, and a bottle of Gold for every now and then. Not necessarily special occassion or anything, but for the price it's not an every day drink, for me!

Enjoy!

Thanks! That's a relief. I like the Green Label a lot!

JW Black is my go to blended Scotch. Easy on the palate and easy on the wallet. I enjoy single malts as well, but you can't go wrong with a bottle of Black IMHO.

Red = Gutrot INHO

Black = good everyday

Green = never tasted it

Blue = Stole Dad's bottle a few years ago when I caught him mixing it with Canada Dry Ginger Ale. That's some good stuff

Gold = In my dreams!!! :p

Damn, they make one more expensive than Blue? :0 :D

I'm no scotch expert by any means, but I really like JW Black. It's one of the few whiskys (or whiskeys) I like to drink neat. Nice vanilla and oak flavors. Matter of fact, I just picked up a bottle today.

No, "Blue" is the top of their line and Gold is another blend in the $50-60 range. There is a cask strength version of Blue in a Baccarat decanter for about $3500 (Blue Label 200Th Anniversary edition) which is the ultimate top of the line.

Hey AVB,

Do you know anything about the Johnny Walker Swing? I saw this on sale down in Montgomery County for $39 (regular price, $50). It comes in a really cool looking bottle, but I don't know anything about then whiskey inside (age, blend or vatted malt, ect.).

I almost bought it for looks alone, but being that I'm still unsure if I would consider myself a Scotch drinker, and that I've never tried any of the Walker bottlings, I passed up on it. Price-wise it was probably a steal though.

On a side note, they also have the Green on sale for $35, and the Gold for $46 - seems like good deals as well.

You mean this?

Swing has been for may years only a "duty free" item and it has only been recently opened up into some trial areas on the east coast. $39 isn't a bad price, I think mine was $35 in the duty free shop and it is usually $60 in most places. Overall, it is supposed to be between the Black and the Gold in blends. I don't think it is as good as the Green myself but that is a vatted whisky and not a blend.

Green for $35 is a great price and the Gold at $46 is pretty good too. I've reviewed them both if you want to look. To give you an idea, the Green and Gold are both "on sale" here in PA for $45 and $60 respectively but can be found for less in MD usually

Yep that's the one. Thanks for the info.

I did check out your reviews on the Black, Green, and Gold. I was real tempted to grab a bottle of the Green label, but as I said, I've never tried any of the Johnny Walker labels, and so far I've found some Scotch I like and some I hate, so I'm a little hesitant to spend $35 on a bottle.

I think I need to at least try some Black label first, since that can be found in just about any decent bar.

Hey Ray, I saw they are offering the Blue 200th in standard packaging for $500 a bottle! I was in the current Penthouse!

I've only had the JW Red. Once in a while I'll have a Maker's Mark. I'll have to give the Black a shot. Like someone said, "for an extra coupla dollars." Let 'er rip boyz.
