Looking for input for a new humidor...

I'm looking to purchase a humidor. I've checked several sites and came across one on CheapHumidors.com, here's a link:

It's in the imperfect section, which I've seen numerous comments that most of these you can't even find the imperfection. I was hoping someone would have some input on whether this were a good deal or not. Look forward to the feedback! Thanks!
 
Go with a coolidor....Thats where i shoulda started...

But if you must have a nice humi...I personally don't feel the need for all the glass and built in hygros. The analog ones are rarely correct. I do like those extra drawers on the bottom though...
 
I have that same humidor and I really like it. The person who traded it to me got it from Thompson's.

It's actually 2 humidors. the drawers are completely separate from the top. lurch is right about the hygro, you'll need two digitals.
 
I'm just starting out, so want to get the nice nice humi for the house out the way. I have very few (and I mean very few) cigars, so it will take a little time (okay, maybe not too little) to get collecting. I'm actually smoking more than collecting at the moment :whistling: . I'm sure I'll end up with the coolidor (already have the cooler in the shed) as I'm totally addicted at this point.

I liked the big Princeton due to the count/price, however I was looking at maybe just the Milano for $39.99 (75-100) and starting with that since it's my very first. I've read through a number of the threads and have learned a good deal. However, there's nothing like good advice from experienced users! :thumbs: So any further advice would be much appreciated! What would I need to get started if I just went with the smaller Milano, or this hefty Princeton? Hygrometer, huidifier, beads, etc. Good places to go? I've seen Heartfelt mentioned several times.
 
Nice Humi - It will fill up fast, but it is nice to have even a display humi and the drawers are a bonus. You can put some sticks in there that you don't want fingered all the time or at a different humidity. I'll be posting info on a digital hygrometer I found at HD recently for under $15.

Price looks good. But you're gonna neede something big soon, just look in my gallery at what these guys here have done to me! :sign:

There is a wealth of knowledge on this site. You just have to search for it. I searched for days and days before properly seasoning my humi. Then I searched some more when I set up my coolidor. This site is awesome for information...Just takes a little work on your part...

You didn't think this hobby was going to be easy did you? ;)
 
Lord a mercy I didn't think! lol I just used the search field above and it took me to some great information. I think I have it now. Also, Heartfelt had a cool calculator along with calculations on how to figure the amount of beads to use, so I think I'm set there. Distilled water, salt for calibration. Distilled water for seasoning (couple/few days until stabilized). Add cigars! Oh wait, got to get cigars! Knew I forgot something! :blush:

Oh, one other question before I sign off. How the heck do you get pictures in these posts!!! :D No idea about the URL bar that pops up....duh me! :blush:

If you're getting beads anyway, might as well get a Boveda pack for calibrations too. I just trust it more than a salt test personally.

This will be my one and only in the house humi (I know, I say that now :rolleyes: ). IF I get this one full, it'll be the coolidor next! Just got to figure out where to put this thing, (wife is already saying, "It's not going there!") :rolleyes:

wine cooler vote here, unless you have a basement or keep your house at 70. I'm not far from you and had a really tough time keep my cigars in a normal humidor.
 
Got the new humi in today! Hooray! So, I took a sponge and some distilled water, wiped the whole thing down inside. Got my tube of 70% 4oz Heartfelt beads and hydrated them per directions. Placed inside the humi. Now I have a question. The humi came with three humidifier boxes. Do I need to hydrate all three of these and put in the box as well? Or, do I just need the tube? Anyone have any idea?
 
Some pics. Got this off Cheaphumidors in the imperfect section. Not a scratch anywhere on this thing! Both fold out compartments have hairline cracks down the length of the bottom, but I'd say it was typical of the cedar and won't hurt a thing. Can't wait to load this thing up!!

Nice Humi, I almost bought that one myself a few months ago but the wife decided she liked a different one.

If you have the beads you do not need the three humidifier boxes at all, just charge up the beads and off you go. MAke sure you give it plenty of time to season, mine took about 2 weeks to get right, but it was only about 1/4 full, and I was not there to help my wife.

Oh man, you don't know how much I really appreciate your response. I've read a ton of stuff, but if you've never done something before it still makes ya kinda nervous. I have the sponge and beads in the top part and one of the plastic humidifiers in the bottom drawer. Was at 75%, 73 F as of this morning (day 1).

One other question you may know the answer on. I got the $15 digi hygro from heartfelt. Again, new to this, but am pretty sure it's not adjustable. Do I still need to do a salt test on this thing?
