Just had an earthquake here... weird... there's been a couple in the area, but this is the first I've felt. Not large enough here to shake anything off the walls, but very noticeable. Hope everyone out there is okay. I'll have to check the news in the morning to see if anything was written up on it.

Ahhhh- just a little warm up because of all the unrest in the middle east at this time, See on the news today the Israeli's moved in the ground troops in to Gaza... Keep your eyes on that area people... mess with the bull you get the horns....

AP picked up some news on it. link

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — Officials say a strong earthquake has hit northeastern Afghanistan, a quake that rattled the capital Kabul for about a minute.

The U.S. Geological Survey says Sunday's quake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.2 and was located in the northeastern province of Badakhshan in the Hindu Kush mountains. The area is often hit by earthquakes but is sparsely populated.

A Badakhshan police official, Fazel Ahmad Naderi, says the quake was strong but noted that his cell phone still worked, meaning that towers had not been toppled. The quake hit about 12:50 a.m. local time and Naderi says he won't know about damage until daylight.

The quake rattled buildings in Kabul, about 160 miles southwest of the epicenter.

Wow, as if you didn't have enough to worry about down there all ready John.

Looks like the planet is moaning and groaning today... a 7.2 hit out in the ocean near Indonesia around the same time, no reports of a Tsunami this time though.

It's spreading! I hope you people in California are paying attention! :0

Hey John, check this out...

Well here in California, we do get small trembles often as many as a dozen a week, most of which you can't feel, all along the fault lines that look like zippers across this state. We are due for a "big" one somewhere here in the north, and yes the north does include the Greater San Francisco Area. Seems like as the plates shift through out the world, one big slip somewhere usually correlates to a big slip some where else. - and yes the humidors are safe! :whistling:

I've been in Kunduz for the past 8 days, only had to work for 3 of the eight but bad weather in Kabul and here has stopped us from leaving. In the eight days I felt 3 earthquakes, the largest/longest being on Sunday morning at aabout 0100L. I grew up in Cleveland and am not at all familiar with earthquakes. We had on in the late 80s but it was very mild. All three that I've felt here were 5.0 and more.

When I volunteered for this mission I was given training on weapons, tactics, vehicles, bugs, cold weather, disease, and even experienced nasal rape during the Combat Life Saver's course. No one ever told me anything about earthquakes. As far as I'm concerned, you can keep them on the west coast. I don't want any part of them. If the earth moves for me my wife had better be involved.

Cheers,

Tony

We had one a few months ago it was very scary, all the room was shaking and things started
to fall.We had one 100 years ago that destroyed almost all the country, experts say that every 100 years
we will be hit with one like that.
What can I say,hope they're wrong.

Take care out their, like there aren't enough things for you to worry about.
