This may be a silly question fella's...but hey, no question is a stupid question...right? Anyways, I don't normally smoke torpedos, but I just received my shipment of Montecristos No.2's. Where do I make the cut on those?

Do you like more smoke/easy draw or tight draw/less smoke. For the first, cut a bigger section. For the second, cut a smaller section. I always start with cutting off just under half of the cap. You can cut more if the draw/smoke volume isn't right. Cut too much at first and you can't glue it back on.

For more flavor, don't cut on a perpendicular axis (perp. to the long axis of the cigar) cut at about a forty-five degree angle. When you draw on the stick, place the cigar in your mouth so that the angle will deflect the smoke directly onto your tongue.

for example:

Personal preference. For me... it's between 1/4" to 1/2".

I cut the pointy end........works best for me :p

Yeah mUley great pic!

Some people call that the "Dick Cut" when you sut th eend of a torp/beli at an angle. I guess some guy named Dickman popularized it. Anyways that's my preferred way of cutting the tapered ended cigars. I sont' worry about which way the angle is pointed though.

Thanks!

really? I thought the whole purpose was to direct the smoke to the taste buds. I know, if I angle the cut away from my tongue, I lose much of the flavor!

I know the perfect way to cut a torp and will gladly share it with you.
My snailer is in my profile, so send me one or two of your #2s and I will take a nice digital photo of them before and after I cut them. I'll also let you know how they smoke with such a nice cut when I'm done

I trade or give away all my torpedos :D

If I do smoke one, I chop it off to leave about a 3/8" dia end ;) I'm too uncoordinated to try anything like Muley's plan, I'd probably chop my finger off :p

Actually I thought the reason was to create a larger cross-section for airflow without having to go higher on the taper...you know cos an oval has a lrger area than a circle....

In my dim understanding of the dynamics of smoke flow I figure it just swirls around and creates a homogenous fog in the mouth that just settles randomly on all the mucoud membranes, including the tongue.

I'd love to see some kind of fluoroscopic movie of the mouth inhaling cigar smoke :p
