How was your week?

Here is El Chapo Jr. He is getting much better at it too, today he climbed out in one quick smooth move, like a fire fighter going down one of those polls.

This week went pretty well. Thursday was my oldest girls first day of preschool. Every time we asked her if she was ready she would shout, "Me so happy". Got to school and she would run to a toy and then run back to hug our legs. Didn't cry one bit when we left. She did manage to catch a bug though, been feeling junk all weekend. She can't wait to go back though.

how old is your daughter? My son starts preschool right after Labor Day. I'm excited to see how it goes.

Interesting week. Went in Monday for a cervical MRI. Get a call, make an appointment with suggested neurologist. Mid Mack has been bothering me. Went in for a lumber MRI. Don't know about that yet. Just hanging loose waiting to see the neuro guy.

I'm actually off this week. Talked to my boss the other week and told her I just need some time to physically recover after this summer, so she told me to take this whole week as paid sick leave (which I don't actually have). She works us to death, but she knows how to take care of her people. I've learned a lot from her about management (both good and bad). I'm hoping to take care of a lot of stuff with my car this week now that I am not stuck at work and then dog tired when I get home.

The kids started school this week. I now have a 4th grader and a Junior in high school. This shit has got to stop...

We've been busy. All summer I've been writing new English curriculum for Richard Milburn Academy, my employer (10 campus charter school chain here in Texas) as I've mentioned before . . . and it's getting down to the wire!

I'll be putting in full days most of this week getting the last of the punchlist buttoned up, and then next week---it's back to work!

The summer work is off contract, but at my daily rate, which after two decades of teaching is pretty good stuff. They're buying me new living room furniture. :D

Next week the first few days are a final conference with the rest of the Central Teaching Group (that's my branch---virtual instruction and curriculum design. I've taught as many as ten classrooms simultaneously in this job!) and the week after THAT, I'll be presenting the new material to the entire statewide teaching staff up at Mo Ranch in the Hill Country.

And the week after THAT the students return!

Oh, and I took my grand-niece Cloey out to lunch and to see the new Ghostbusters. :)

How did you guys like ghost busters?

The bad news....looks like I lost the turbo on my TDI Jetta. Well, it's 12 years old and has 200k+ on it, so while not welcome, it's not a complete surprise.

The good news....I fly out tomorrow to NJ to hang with my good friend Gary Roberti and attend the Quad State Herf this weekend...!! Haven't been back in three years, can't wait to see everyone..!!

Sounds like its time for a bigger turbo. :D

Sounds like a problem for another day

Cloey liked it. I thought it . . . gods. It was just horrible, it really was. Not a single laugh. Terrible script and worse direction.

Guess I'm not the market demographic for stooopid.

I didn't think it was terrible. Not great, by any means, but better than I expected it to be (which was about what your take on it was). My daughter liked it, and I liked the cameos in it. Not something I'll go out of my way to see again, though.

I just kept expecting it to be funny. And nothing ever really was. There were a few things that started out to be funny, but got stepped on or squelched outright, and some things that thought they were funny but weren't, and a whole lot of stuff that was trying WAY too hard to be funny . . . but nothing I actually found funny.

And I wasn't alone. There was only the occasional lonely, isolated, half-hearted chuckle in the whole theater all movie long. :(

That's what happens when you take a bunch of decent supporting actors and try to force them into the lead roles of a movie.

You had the female versions of Kevin James, Eddie Murphy, Ben Stiller, and some lesbian nobody knows.

Would have been better off using Kenny Powers, Seth Rogen, Tracy Morgan, and Bill Hader with Leslie Mann as the secretary.

That's Kate McKinnon, and she was the only good thing in the whole movie. Or would've been, if they would have just LET her. o_O

That's the thing.

Her character, Jillian Holtzmann---the one with the goggles and hair that builds all the stuff, for those of you who've only seen the trailer---is pretty obviously a lesbian, but Disney tippy-toes all around that, hinting but not admitting. Not LETTING her be. In one scene she is VERY obviously flirting with Kristin Wiig's character, Erin Gilbert (the mousey one) in a really "awkward tomboy showing off" kind of way that was endearing and seemed spontaneously ad-libbed and kept getting funnier and funnier . . . and then McCarthy comes in and squelches it and it goes nowhere and is never returned to for the rest of the movie.

Don't even get me started on McCarthy. It's not her fault Hollywood can't quite seem to figure out what to do with a, aaaah, fuller figured actress, but every time she's on screen I think "Chris Farley with boobs but without any of the comedic talent."

McKinnon and her crazed enthusiasm for the stuff she builds, though---that made for a few good moments---there was one inspired sequence in the finale that was like some kind of Tarantino/Peckinpah/Matrix homage and ended with her licking one of her ray guns---but they just never had enough fun with it. Disappointing.

I'll agree with all of that. I still didn't think it was horrible, but it had the potential to be so much better.

That's how my wife felt. I liked it, but I too felt that it had more potential. I liked it because it was different enough that i wasn't comparing every scene to the original and I liked the cameos. It did take a while for it to get funny and that is where the untapped potential was for me.

This week was tiring. I baby sat for my friends who have twins the same age as my son. The three of them are like best friends. MY son was so psyched that he was just over flowing with energy. That made him a handful to deal with, while still taking care of the twins. Luckily my wife was having a light day at work and was able to lend a hand. His energy flowed over to the next day and while I was out running errands during his nap- he was up climbing out of his crib and emptying every drawer, shelf, and bin. My wife exiled us out of the house after we cleaned up the mess. But since then, everything has been cool.

I did get to smoke some good cigars this week. One that stood out was from Black Lable Trading Company but i forget the name of the cigar. The one that was a dud was from the Cig Fed COTM for July- one of the exclusive ones made for Cig Fed. I was disapointed and want to try it again to make sure of my opinion.

Now I'm watching to Olympics Openning Ceremony.

So how's your week been?
