Like I said, it is just an MSRP reference to help members decide whether they want to pay the $38.99 for an Opus RDC or not, knowing that they're paying a $26.00 markup for it. As stated, you are more than allowed to price your cigars as you see fit being that you're a retailer, but some of the members here, like Mark said, are not your average online customers.

Thanks for being a lot more respectful than everyone else on this topic so far..

Those prices blow my mind, out of all honesty, because that's not anywhere what I paid for the boxes I have at the shop..I wish I did get them for that much.

All I can do is sell them for what I think is reasonable based on the whs. price I paid for them.

I'll keep everyone updated with other things I got going on.

For those who think Im a fraud, give me a break...you go open a Cigar shop and see if you can even get a hold of Opus X. I highly doubt it.

I'll be posting a price list and stock soon, bare with me.

I suppose we have to hand it to the guy for being persistent and not afraid to listen to the criticism. That being said, I would never come close to paying that much for Opus. There are some Cubans I would pay that much to buy but not Opus.

The $48.99 (box price) was actually for the Coffin Opus X "A"; the 9.2 x 47. The worker I got there, I assume, was confused on which cigar you asked him about. Those, however, were ordered for a specific customer...he's buying the whole box.

The boxes I got in, for retail purposes, is the Opus X Reserva D' Cheateau. The Retail, in store price, is going to be $39.99 on that per cigar, not $48.99. With the 10% off for CP members, it's like $36.00 a pop. Now before everyone starts jumping down my throat, here are some online comparisons on the same exact cigars...from very reputable dealers:

You may or may not be a fraud...those prices don't fly here...and if you can't get them at MSRP...or around it...you're in the wrong business AND you don't have a Fuente account. So, leave the Fuente HTF's in the shops that get them...so good little S/BOTL may get them at a better price than this!
 
Are you an authorized Fuente dealer or did you buy these from Ebay or something?

I bought them from a Cigar wholesaler/distributor. Im starting to think that they are price gouging on the Opus...based on what all of you fellas are telling me. This really really concerns me...

I got the number for Fuentes offices in FL, so I'll give them a call tomorrow. The thing is with our situation is this: We are in Texas, and Texas law does not allow you (if you are a retailer) to buy from wholesalers that DO NOT pay TX taxes on shipped goods. So for instance: We buy from wholesaler "A" a bunch of product, but wholesaler "A" does not pay Texas tax on that product. When it arrives to our shop, we can get in big trouble for carrying it and selling it. Those are the rules...and they must be followed.

The only way around this is to get a distributor license (which we are doing soon).

I know some of you people dogged my ass, but for what it is, I want to thank you...for the least...opening my eyes to this. Cause I mean, really, I figured the "online" prices were standard for Opus X prices?

As far as I know...there is NO Fuente Wholesale location. All items would ship direct from Fuente to the dealer - or the local rep for delivery.

I'd be very upset if that is different in Texas.
 
If I'm not mistaken, if you have an account with fuente they have a no price gouging policy. If you are caught doing this by fuente they will pull your account, someone correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks for this info. We do not have a Fuente account, as I stated above, we get our stuff from wholesalers/distributors that are known to have Texas taxes paid.

I'll have to be reporting this if it does come out that we got hustled.
 
There are many many repsected retailers on this board. They all earned our respect.

However, I would agree with those questioning your actions.

Look at the business aspect of what you did.

You come to a cigar commuuntiy tyring to sell one the most known and sought after cigars in the marketplace (I know this is debateable, but I am trying to make a point here) at significantly higher prices than MSRP (or MSRP plus a small mark up).

We know you proably cannot get an Opus account and we all know you bought these off the secondary market.

But my god man, if you are trying to open and run a sucessful business, know you market and know your customers.

Would you go a car forum (as an an example) and try and sell parts for 25-30% above what they cost.

Did you do any research before you started your business?

Do you have any idea what the cigar community is like and how imporant reputation is?

I would suggest you spend a little time here (and other places) you could learn a lot and maybe have a sucessful business to show for it.

It is not uncommon for a cigar forum devotee to walk into a cigar shop and have a greater depth of knowledge than the shop's hourly employees, but this thread is a priceless example of an individual in waaaaayyy over his head. :laugh:

Hell, if the cigar biz doesn't pan out for you Jimmy, you could always open a little Texas style roadside burger joint with a catchy name like McRonalds.

Actually I read everything you posted.

However, my post above was posted after you posted your explanation about how you obtain cigars in Texas becasue I was in the middle of my post when I was called away from my computer. I did not see your post before posting mine.

I cannot comment on the Texas regs about obtaining cigars as I do not do business in Texas. It was laready noted that many vendors in Texas have Opus at MSRP.

But your post goes to my orginal question about how well you know (or do not know) the business you are getting into.

You obviously had no idea about the MSRP of an item you are and will continue to sell.

You also did not respond to the fact that you claimed your Opus was from 1992. Showing again that you have no idea about the product you are selling.

These facts make you look like a gouger and/or a scammer.

Had you done any (or even a little) research about the product you are selling to the public, you would have gotten the answers to these questions.

In fact, had you come to the board and posted that you were a new retailer try to establish themselves here (and had question on how to do business), you would have gotten an overwhelming response and support from the members here.

As was stated before, you are getting called out becasue of you actions and people are trying to protect other's interest's in this community.

You are trying to sell your products to very EDUCATED AND KNOWLEDGEABLE consumers here.

Now back to our regularly scheduled program.
