Please help in choosing a humidor :)

I've been looking for a humidor for a couple of months now and think I've found one that I like. Please give me any/all input on this one and if you have a better suggestion, please post it. I really don't know too much about them, but really like the look/design of this one and the fact that it has an external hygrometer.

If you don't think this is a good one, or would be better off going a different route, here's my criteria:

-AROUND $150
-AROUND 150 cigar capacity

The Hrgro on that humi is going to be junk. Spend $20 in Rods store and get a digital

. As far as the Humi itself goes, unless its for display save your money and buy a cooler. In the long run this is your best bet as you will probably end up with way more cigars than you plan.
 
Like Nashkicker said. You'll most likely end up wanting to get a coolidor if you end up hanging around here very long, and get a good digital hygro.

If you do want something nice here are some links to some better places to buy. They have small medium and large humidors for sale. Go large though...TRUST US!!!

I have a CC Elegance Humidor and while it is a very nice humidor it doesn't hold close to 150 sticks. I'm not sure mine would hold 75 sticks. The storage drawer simply takes up too much space IMHO. Nashkicker is correct, the hydrometer is a total POS, but it does look nice.
 
if you see one you like on cheap humidors send me a pm i deal with the same wholesaler and might be able to get you a better priced drop shipped straight to your house.
 
Can I mount a digital one on its exterior? Isn't an exterior hygrometer the way to go, so you don't have to open it up all the time to check its reading(s)?

Where are good places to buy a 'coolidor'? Also, I have found the humidor I posted cheaper, I just figured I'd post the link from their actual website. Thanks for the info about Cheaper Humidors, though! The cheapest I've found is off of that auction site for $120 shipped.

You can't really mount it on the outside very easily. You can buy a decent one that is wireless at any Lowe's for a reasonable price and set it beside the bed on the nightstand.
I have one of those wireless weather stations and I use all three remotes for my humidors. It has the display on the remotes, and it tells me the readings beside my bed for all three at the main station.......Temp and humidity.

Edit to add: You can buy a really nice cooler to convert at any Costco. Try and buy the ones with the slots on the insides as it allows you to make shelves that slide in and out if you don't want to have to play cooler Tetris to find your cigars.
 
I would like to have a nice desktop to keep in my garage on display (holding all of the sticks that I plan to smoke, not age), which is where we all smoke. I also would like to get a seperate humidor for aging cigars. I plan to buy a variety ISOM sticks in either 5 or 10 packs/boxes, smoke half, then age the other half. That humidor I'd keep in the house.

Does this all make sense, or am I going about this all wrong?

All with the exception of I'd never keep any of my cigars in a garage that had wild temp and humidity swings.

Then I'm glad I asked. I was reading this morning that humidors are best kept in a cool area where there isn't much temp change and to stay below approx. 75* Would the garage work from now until when it starts getting hot again next year? I live in Wisconsin....

I have the same CUBAN CRAFTERS Humi, just a different color. I bought it in December of last year and love it. The hygro is crap, I bought a digital from Rods store and it is fine. I had to stop using it in the summer due to space and heat and humidity issues in my area...but with fall coming, I plan on breaking it out again and re seasoning it!

Can't wait to have it on display again.
 
Umm... Cigar Pass is the website you're on right now...

I think Tom is telling you to grab a cooler and turn it into a humidor (coolerdor). That's what the majority of us have done. I would NOT keep your humidor in the garage, unless you have one of those climate controlled ones that you keep your 67 Mustang in. Keep it in the house. You won't have any wild swings in humidity and temperature.

Cooler. Coleman to be exact. The ones that can hold ice up to 5 or 6 days are better because it has more insulation.
The more insulation, the less temperature fluctuation.

After buying cool, clean it with soap and water, let it dry. Buy Viper beads. 1 pound. Buy at least 1 Hydrometer from Rod. 1 Gallon of Distilled water. Put everything in Cooler, including cigars, and mix. Keep cooler in living room for everyone to see. Put table cloth over it to please the lady.

Trust me....when those guys tell you you will outgrow your humidor pretty fast.....trust me...they are right! I started with one 100 count, bought another one, a third one, then a cabinet.......now I am building another cabinet....the mother of all....to fit them all in!

If I were in your situation, I would get a cooler (Coleman Marine 150-Quart Cooler at W*lmart 79.94$), an hygrometer, humidification beads, a bit of spanish cedar for separators, all for about 100$. You'll be able to fit alot of cigars in there, let them age, and it is pretty easy to setup, do a search in the forums, there are plenty of info on different setups, and cleaning to remove plastic smell before putting your cigars in.

Then, with the 50$ left, buy yourself whatever small (25-50 count) humidor you like from any web or local source, for display, and to keep a couple smokes from each box you have in your coolerdor, to put in your living room, or wherever. I personnaly like the Camacho SLR 20 Cigar Humidor from cheaphumidors......but the choice is yours.....

Thats my take on the situation, just my 0.02
