    dang, what a bad evening

Man, that's really rough. No, alchohol isn't the devil and, no, don't jump on yourselves as the bad guys. Just own up. Talk to her. Sounds like the fact you're posting on a forum that you don't talk to her too well. Just saying. Might be something to consider.

    favorite mass produced beer

My favorite has always been Redhook IPA. However, I think it's tough to beat a regular MGD on a real hot day. Sam Adams is always drinkable but I never got the appeal of it. It smells/tastes very faintly of vomit and the aftertaste starts to get to me after the second bottle.

    Trader Joe's Scotches - Macallan, Glenlivet...etc

Interesting - this is the first I've heard of this.

Conan O'Brien in Chicago this week!

Coventry - I might be totally wrong on this, but I saw Conan earlier this week and the shows were in Chicago. However, those were old eps. I've seen them before. Is he doing new ones?

    Scotch advice for my father

Coventry, if you get around to it, a review would be great. I get around to the Boston area now and again (lived there for 8 years). I went to the Morton's in Minneapolis back in my Consultant days (around 2000). My coworker read in the in-flight magazine that it was rated as one of the...

    Favorite inexpensive red wine?

    I second the Bogle Merlot.

    Scotch advice for my father

Thanks, AVB! I'm making a note of your suggestions. I think next year I might take a different strategy. My father is also a prime rib fanatic. A night at Morton's, or another top place in the Bay Area, followed by a sample of several different choice varieties of scotch? That might be the...

    Scotch advice for my father

Thanks for the ideas. Since my father and I aren't experts either, any opinions are welcome. Kinda funny story. I got him the 18 Ancient a couple years ago. The conversation went like this: "So what did you think?" "It's good, very good." "Yeah, but how about compared to regular Glen?"...

    Scotch advice for my father

I like to get my father a good bottle of scotch for his birthday and/or Christmas. If you asked him to name a favorite he'd say Glenfiddich, probably followed by Johnny Walker and then Glenlivet. I got him a bottle of Laphroaig 15 yr and he didn't care for it at all. The strong peat really...

    Macallan 12yo Single Malt Scotch

I'm a newbie scotch drinker. So is my dad, but he has more years. Raising three boys he didn't have a lot of money while we were growing up so I try to buy him a bottle of something decent for his birthday or Christmas. A couple years ago I got him Macallan 12 yr and we tried it together. My...

    Laphroaig 15 yo scotch review

I guess I'll throw in my newbie 2 cents. I bought a bottle of this for my father about a year ago and we decided it wasn't for us. Cost was around $65 at BevMo. My father is a big fan of "the Glens" and JWs. Your review is spot on, however, in mentioning the strong peat taste. It is very...

    Knob Creek Small Batch Bourbon

I just got a bottle of this for Christmas. This really smells great. Someone previously mentioned vanilla and I also smell some pepper. It has a nice, smooth and sweet smell. The taste is just briefly sweet and like a very smooth syrup before the spicy/peppery taste takes over and it...
