Anybody revist Epernay vs. ECCJ 15th?

The ECCJ 15th remains a bit of a white buffalo for me, but I know I adore the Epernays with a year or two of downtime. This begs the question: now that there are Epernays that have had some comparable downtime like the ECCJ 15th did when it came out, what's the consensus among those who have had both? Is the Epernay starting to taste like the ECCJ, or is it still showing some significant differences?

edited... ECCJ not EECJ...

I have the ECCJ siting in my humi, but from what I gather it's not the original release. I bought mine probably in '09. I have some Epernay also. I can't tell the difference other than a visual cue that I'm smoking something a bit rarer when I light up an ECCJ.

Guess I should revisit both sticks back to back and see what's happening to them. I don't know exactly WHEN the original releases of the ECCJ was, does anybody out there know?

Dave

I definitely taste differences between the two lines. The ECCJ is a bit sweeter to me. Unfortunately, I only have one left.

It's hard to remember a taste quite that precisely after a couple years, at least for me, but I smoked a LOT of ECCJ when they were around, and the closest Epernay in size really IS starting to put me in mind of them now that they've aged some.

I am keen to hear what peoples opinions are on this. The Epernay line is one on my favorites, particularly the '11 releases.

Dave, here is a nice write up on the ~eccj~ that Gavin provided during his recent pass: http://www.halfwheel...ew-as-it-burns/
Thanks! The people leaving comments said the original release had 300 boxes (150 boxes twice that year) but that "maybe" they released more? I went to see which release I have and figured might as well throw some porn out there.

10 sticks left in this box. Sadly, this is my last one.

Waddya know, October 2008 Shweet!

Once I can get to smoking again, think I'll fire one up to see how these have handled Father Time.

What? You need a review? No problem, send me 4 or 5 and I'll write up a nice review for you, :D

Dave, my white buffalo is a Cohiba Grand Reserva ;)

Nice gesture Dave

Thank you so much, Dave! PM sent. Never my intent to have this come off as an ISO... simply curiosity as I scored a great deal on some Epernay Le Matins last weekend.

I love these cigars because the flavor profile is fantastic and there is NOTHING else like them. They didn't impress me fresh, but after about a year of down time they started to shine. Two years seems to elevate them into that elite category of cigars.

Glad I could scratch it off your list, Barry! I love the Epernay line too, that floral taste is something that I crave on certain occasions. They're not butt kickers, but you are right, nothing tastes like them. Dion just makes some solid smokes! I've been smoking his ULTRA releases lately, now those can make a head spin.

Alright, I finally had the gumption to compare the ECCJ (thanks again, Dave!) to one of my last OR Epernay Le Matins (bought in July 2010 from Uptown).

There is no doubt in my mind these are the same blend.  Both were excellent cigars, sharing the same phenomenally smooth floral, sweet and nutty profile.  The ECCJ had a little more raisin notes to it in the second third, but that could be an age difference or maybe the slight difference in vitola.  Two great smoking experiences all around.

You guys just encouraged me to find that box of ECCJ I put down a few years back. Thanks!

Here's a 2009 box code. Haven't cracked the seal on the box yet
