So I got a free dorm sized fridge today and I decided to make a humidor. I live in Boston in a basement level apartment and there i an interior closet that I'm going to keep it in so I don't anticipate needing to plug it in or regulate the temp. Im going to toss about 2lbs of heartfelt 65% beads spread out on 3 luuon shelves and a wireless weather station set up and call it a day.

Pics to come soon...

All things considered, why not pick up an Igloo (or other equivalent brand) cooler to use as your setup and plug in the 'fridge for some nearby snacks and/or cerveza?

The fridge is free standing and already has shelves built in. It fits perfectly in the closet, and most importantly....IT WAS FREE!!!

$50 for a wireless weather system
$60 for 2lbs heartfelt 65% beads
$10 for trays for the beads

$120 total for a set and forget system (relatively speaking)

I cant wait.

Now I just need some smokes to fill it with!!!

Congrats on the fridge PGK! Can't pass up Free!!! :)
The hard part is over, now on to the Cigars!!! Have fun!!!

Thought I'd show you what it will look like when it's full. These little fridges work great. I've had mine going for years.

I understand. I do. I'd just suggest to fill it up quick. Them beads are gonna get a good work out until then.

Unfilled humidor conversion containers can be a major PITA without the current standard of cedar lining to help control humidity fluctuations. It'll need the aid of contents to displace the interior air, which is "unprotected" and sensitive to the humidity of outside ambient air each time you open it up. It'll either let its humidity escape or suck the outside humidity in (I don't know your local RH level) each time you open it up until you populate it well with cigars (or other hygroscopic items - like cigar boxes).

Good luck with it. Free is (nearly) always a good price.

Just a silly question...

Is this thing air tight? if so...I think I know what I'm going to do with my mini-fridge when I'm done with school!!!!

yes this thing has a very decent seal. when you close it ort of hard you can see it pause at the last second as it shuts. it almost slows down and settles into its spot. This is the air being blown out and the door sealing itslef.

I love padrons but I'm still trying to find my ideal size and wrapper. Unfortunately I cant afford to have a fridge full lol but id like to grab a box soon.

what is your preference Mr. Padron Whore?

PAM Exclusivo and #2000 maduro.

Whose next to speak up? Come on, this place is full of Padron Whores...

;)

Favorite cigars are Padrons, and so far my fav's are the #2000 maduro and the 1926 #2. I haven't tried the 1926 80th Anniv I have yet, so we'll see if it jumps up to the #1 spot.

I like'm all!! But favorites would be the 2000's, Londres and the Delicias. As with all the cigars I smoke, I tend to lean to the smaller sizes. Although I do have a box of 6000's in there that have been napping for a couple years now, at least! Never had a 6000 so I look forward to breaking open that box someday. In the anni's I prefer the '64 corona's and the Principe's. Again, it's a size thing.

Just for fun here's a little more Padron porn. Check out those anni's with the single bands. Pre serialized sticks. Not sure how old they are but wouldn't be to hard too figure out. At least 5-6-7 years old. Maybe Moki would know. Enjoy !!

How well does the fridge hold humidity? Does the RH level drop when the compressor kicks on or is it a smooth set up?
