At area theaters. Contains intense warfare, sensuality, profanity and smoking. 161 minutes.

Seriously? They really warn people that someone might be smoking on screen? W. T. F. Over...

Instead of teaching the kids right from wrong - good from bad....they are just being shelter from it, in hopes that it will one day go away.

That's the biggest shame of all.

Hiding their heads in the sand.

<shakes head>

by 'it' I mean: " intense warfare, sensuality, profanity and smoking"

...and what other kind of 'warfare' is there, btw???

Happy Holidays!

American urban warfare! Just read the papers about Chicago, glad i got out while i still could.

You know they are re-doing all the old cartoons and removing all the smoking, right?

We've turned into a pansy nation.

Well said Gary. I edited to add my view on the subject. ???

LOL there's actually a theory of warfare called "low-intensity warfare" usually referring to insurgency or guerrilla fighting, but I REALLY doubt that's what they had in mind. They probably mean mild warfare like the fighting in star wars or something.

At any rate, this is another example of how we're slowly losing a battle we're not even bothering to fight. Combined, tobacco consumers would make the single largest voting block in the country, but we never vote as a block (or even lobby as a block). Did anyone read that CNN Op-Ed yesterday about "How to win the Tar Wars" or something about making tobacco-free states? So aggravating. "Big Tobacco" is a myth. Big Tobacco is farmers and B&M owners and small guys with boutique cigar lines and those of us that just like having a cigar. We don't mind avoiding non-smokers because it bugs them, but this is getting out of control.

Seriously, McDonald's is equally bad for the health of this country, where are the signs that say "Warning: Contains consumption of fast food"? I mean, my job is marketing cigars and accessories, and it's frustrating to me all of the limits that are placed on us. We're not making "Cigar Happy Meals" for kids, we just want to be able to run commercials and not have to hide our hobby.

Sorry for the random rant. This crap really frustrates me on a bunch of levels.

Funny you mention this. I nearly posted a thread of similar topic. I was watching Rocky II on cable late last night and realized Stu Nahan was depicted calling the fight from ringside while prominently smoking away on a cigar. Granted, it's a fictional story, but that scene was an accurate portrayal of days gone by. And the late 70's aren't exactly prehistoric. Amazing how times change and how quickly they can change.

The nannys are teaching kids to demonize tobacco earlier than you think. My daughter's school had a full days worth of anti-smoking propaganda during national smoke out day this year. Previous to that, she never thought twice about people smoking. She started crying when she got home from school, and when we finally calmed her down enough to understand what she was saying, she was scared that a friend of ours was going to die because they smoke cigarettes. If I had known what effect that day of school would have on her, I definitely would have pulled her out that day. It took us quite some time to set her straight.

Kindergartners are so hard to reason with.

Ahhh cartoons.....

El producto cigars... big fat perfecto's..... Exploding cigars....

Hey, where can a lad get a good exploding cigar.
They used to make a small white spike that you poked into
a cigar. I used to load my Granpa's cigar and 3 or 4 puff's later...

"CA BOOM"

I laughed so hard.

I actually don't have a problem with this. It's lecturing and restricting adults I have a problem with.

I absolutely agree with teaching kids about the dangers of alcohol and tobacco, but at 5 years old? Wait until they have a better understanding of life and death.

Sensuality? Really? We have to classify this? God forbid kids should see something "sensual" lol.

The funny thing is, i am sure whoever comes up with this crap isn't following it. Its like the congress who passes laws against "x crime" while doing "x crime" all the time.

One of the charachters is smoking a cigarette onscreen 1 or 3 times.

In CA here I've seen a commercial three times now showing someone smoking in an apartment with a kid coughing next door and a message about smoking neighbors are always unsafe. It's amazing.

New era, public healthcare means they need to cut down on harmful habits. Same as an insurance company would do but with politicians, police and lawyers....

in a situation like that, I'd be more concerned about the unsafe building... ??? in a properly constructed building, about the only way that smoke would get from one unit to the next would be through open windows - it ain't going to go through the walls...

OMG !! Are you ever coming late to this party my friend. Seven years ago they edited the movie E.T. for the 2002 20th anniversary re-release of the movie. They digitally removed the guns for the FBI agents hands and replaced them all with walkie-talkies! I knew right then what this country was coming to!!

Isn't that the truth! Well said Gary.

Not wanting to get too political, this idea of shielding our children from all Worldly evils crosses both party lines and has become the fuel that drives the Socialist Machine.

As the wife of an ex-president expresses in her book, "It Takes a Village", she advocates a society which meets all of a child's needs.

'Nuff said.....
