On this day in 1905, after a long search, John Paul Jones's body was brought ashore at Annapolis Maryland to be intered at the Naval Academy. The search was begun in 1899 by Ambassador Horace Porter. President T.R sent four cruisers to bring his remains back home. Seven Battleships escorted the body up the Chesapeake Bay.

On 26 January 1913 His body was laid to rest in the crypt of the U.S. Naval Academy Chapel. To this day, a Marine Honor Guard stands watch when the chapel is open to the public.

Although there is no official father of the USN, J.P.Jones is recognized as such by every Blue Jacket who ever served.

Doc.

Even to a lubber like me, the sound of few names ring from the past like that of John Paul Jones.

I work with a fella who was named for him he doesn't go by just John. It's John Paul to everyone who knows him.

I've actually seen his coffin in the crypt of the chapel at the Naval Academy. It was pretty cool and moving at the same time.
