Model Rocketry

We used 1/2 inch aluminum tubes with a wooden dowel for the nose and soldered on the fins.

Our fuel was a mixture of potasium nitrate (saltpeter), charcoal and sulphur.

That was in the mid-sixtees. We had more failures than the U.S. and Russians combined.

Most of Estes and Quest stuff is blow mold plastic noscones and flimsy balsa. However, there are a lot of vendors out there doing some really neat stuff.

Semroc
Fliskits
LOC/Precision
Squirrel Works
Thrustline Aerospace
Dr. Zooch
Edmonds Aerospace

and many more.

MicroMaxx mini rockets with mini motors, up to engines you need explosives permits to use. Estes does still reign supreme in the motor market, though, Quest has just released a 18mm D engine.
