Dear Jiffy Smog,

I have lived in Las Vegas for 30 years. I have used your company many
times in the past. However this year may be the last time I ever use
your company.

In December I purchased a new car. I did not get around to registering
this car until March. At that time I visited the Jiffy Smog at
Cheyenne and Durango purchased the smog and then headed to the DMV.
While at the DMV going through the required paperwork in the car I
came across the original smog certificate from the dealer. You see I
had unknowingly paid for the smog as part of the purchase price. But
there I was at your store doing it all over again.

Even though clearly your system is tied into the DMV. Clearly this car had an active smog
for the 6 month period. Instead of informing me that the car had an
active smog cert the tech took my money anyways. He then left the car
hood unsecured and allowed me to drive away.

Found that out a few days later as I had been driving all over the Las Vegas freeways with my
hood latch left on the first latch.

Instead of your staff member simply mentioning that the car was
smogged already, they simply had to punch my VIN number into the
computer, the Jiffy Smog Tech just took my money.

Obviously I was little upset at paying the fee twice. I was even more upset that your
company felt it was much more important to get my $28 dollars than
take care of an existing customer.

When I went back to the store to ask the tech why he had charged me again for an unneeded service he
basically told me "Tough Noogies!" It wasn't Jiffy Smog's job to tell
me.

I have 4 cars in my house. That's $120 per year in smog fees your
company didn't have to screw me to get every year. Instead of that you
got my extra $28 for the second smog on that car. I will make sure
none of mine ever go to a Jiffy Smog again. I travel around the
country for business and I have a large mouth. I am going to mention
your company every chance I get and recommend they look anywhere else
to get smog work done on their cars because of your shoddy short term
business strategies.

The smog cert is only good for 90 days. So if it was tested in Dec it was no longer vaild.
You can check this by calling the DMV emission lab at 486-4981.
We did our job correctly so no need to be upset.

The original smog cert was still valid I used it to register the car.
You did not do your job correctly dude! You fucked over a good

I may have been mistaken. Maybe the smog from the dealer was 75 days old either way
what a crappy response back to a customer.

Oh I forgot to mention my company has a fleet of 100 plus trucks, I am
sure when I go talk to the service manager he will tell me that we
will never again use Jiffy Smog.

Dude sent me a few letters back telling me I was wrong! Good quality companies don't tell a customer that they are wrong, even when they are. I have eaten so much shit in my life to resolve customer disputes. Losing a $1000 deal over a $5 is stupid.

I have to believe that the owners of your company who labored to build
their business to have stores all over town, did not do so using the

I was about to pen another letter and I decided it's not worth the effort. All I wanted out of this dickface in the beginning was an apology and a coupon to use to get my $28 bucks back. At this point I don't care to ever use his services again.

Later that night I was telling the wife the whole story and she got all fired up. She told me to go over the guys head and send a copy of the emails to his boss. I wasn't willing to put in the effort for the above outlined reasons.
We dug a little to find out who Lou's boss might be, turns out Lou is the President/Owner of the company. The owner of the FUCKING company doesn't know Nevada Law regarding his primary source of income.

Good news is I took Lou's advice and called the DMV this morning, at the number provided by Lou. Wouldn't you know they have their own fraud division. A simple check of their computer showed in fact there were two active smog's on my vehicle, the dealer smog and the hose humping I took at the hands of Jiff Snatch! I simply need to drop off a form provided online an they will look into Iffy Smucks with no further aggravation on my part!

I never would have taken it that far but what you can do is file a complaint with the better business bureau to make it more formal.

Us East coasters/Mid Westerners are trying to figure out WTF Jiffy Smog is and what it has to do with the DMV....I thought this thread was about a smoke machine for your act, fueled primarily by peanut butter.

You know after the line front line employee told me I was a douche, I finally got around to writing a nicely worded but obviously upset letter to the company, then to be told by the respondent, that again I was a douche after this company blatantly ripped me off, it pissed me off. Probably not best to go to the 4 letter words but as an adult business owner/manager if you have the worlds worst customer service after ripping people off you should expect profane tirades frequently.
 
I still don't get it. You bought a car, waited months to register it, didn't check the smog status, and then lose it over someone ELSE not checking it either . . . and $28?
