I was never much of a Tequila drinker.. I mean, I'd have the odd shot of cuervo when already drunk, but thats about it.

Recently I was at the Borgata casino and they have a bar that has a selection of like 100 premium tequilas. I found that the really good ones are nice for sipping. Anyone a tequila drinker out there? Can you recommend some good ones?

My personal favorite for sipping is Don Julio silver. But there are several good ones.

Here is the link to the last time Tequila was brought up.

Thanks for the suggestions and the pointer to the other thread. I've got a nice list to try out now.

Don julio reposado -- Shaken with ice --- strained --- served with an orange garnish.

Went wonderfully with a Vegas Robaina famosa at a little "uno de mayo" celebration last night.

It depends what you like.

Blanco/Silver tequila gives the most agave flavor, but can be a bit harsher due to not being aged.

Reposado, or rested tequilas, are aged 3 months to less than a year in oak barrels, so they are usually smoother and pick up additional flavor. This is what I usually drink.

Anejos are aged over a year. Some pick up heavier oak flavors than others, depending on how long it's aged.

I've only tried a couple blancos. Cabo Wabo blanco was very good.

For reposados, some of my favorites that I've tried include Gran Centenario, Don Julio, and El Tesoro.

For anejos, I've only tried a couple, but 1800 Anejo was very good. It's definitely got a heavier bourbon/oak flavor from the aging, but it's very smooth and good.

El Tesoro Anejo, hands down the best tequila I've ever tasted. :D

I may have to try this, since I like the reposado alot and they are close in price. I just hope the anejo isn't too strong on the wood flavors for me.

After trying a lot of the suggestions from here, Don Julio Anejo is my favorite so far.

Here is another I need to try. It's a shame that 99% of bars and restaurants around my area have horrible tequila selection. It makes it real hard to try a variety of tequilas.

He's in PA near Pittsburgh.

I made a batch about four months ago. It'll be ready around next summer. Tasted it the other day and it's freakin' good, even at an uncut 170 proof.

Had the El Tesoro last night -- nice full body more agave than wood to be sure.

What will Tony Bones take in trade for a flask full of this batch?
