I just flew into New Orleans for work. I was browsing my GPS and found "Tinderbox". I thought no way is this the tobacco shop. Looked it up online and sure enough there is one here, had no clue that they were a chain. Anyways, hopefully the job won't be a 12+hour one and I will have time to check it out tomorrow.

Aaaaa Tinderbox!!
I remember going there when I was a kid with my dad for the first time. I will never forget the smell from the pipe tobacco. They do have a decent selection of cigars.
Hope you find what your looking for.

Same here!!! The wonderful pipe smell along with the fancy chess/checkers boards. :) Fond memories of going in with Dad or Grandpa. I had thought they went extinct. When I was growing up here, there was one in the malls and it was replaced with a Discovery Zone. Time flies when you're having fun.

Got a chance to go in and the experience was better than 2 years worth of B&Ms back home.

I started chatting about how I'm from MN, here on business, didn't know Tinderbox was a chain, etc.

I told him I like creamy mild smokes and have a low budget. He said "follow me". We walk into the humi and he said "check those out, best smoke we carry for the price." They were called Platinum Bundles, around $3 a stick. I asked who they were made by, reply was "can't tell you that" (while pointing to a Davidoff box). Really, I asked. He said "this company doesn't make seconds but since it takes 2 years to learn how to properly roll". I interupted him and said "apprentince rolled", he said "you got it".

They also had a Xikar double guitine cutter with a back-stop to get the proper depth, it was plastic housed but Xikar metal for $15 is not bad. Passed on that however.

This is what I ended up walking out with...
2 robusto "Davidoff" Platinum bundles
Padron 2K Nat
Pipe cleaners
Cheap V cutter (wanted to try one).

Total was $17

The Pardon was $3.80, just a little better than the $9 back at home :)

I've hit the T Box in N. O> before is it still in the " Quarter"? I live in Mobile and our T Box is in the mall. Are they regional or national?

The one I went to was in the a mall. City was actually Materi (sp?) but they say N.O. because it is a few blocks away. Didn't have time to go to the quarters.

Whenever I visit Atlantic City, I go to the one in The Quarters (shopping area for Tropicana Casino). They always have this one bottle of Opus One sitting in the front glass case. ONE DAY, I will go in there and buy that sucker!

Early 2000 Vintage, and it's a full bottle. I believe they were selling it for almost $500.00!

Edit: Price

Back around 1996 I had an empty store in my strip mall. I contacted Tinderbox to see how much a franchise would cost. The franchise fee back then was 25 grand. They made you buy about 250k worth of inventory and they took 5 percent off your gross sales. I ended up renting the space to someone so I never acted on it. At the time getting product was incredibly difficult. The boom was at the height and even getting things like Macanudo was a real hassle.

I'm guessing Tinderbox is national as they are out here in Utah, too. I'm going to have take a look at those platinum's when I go this evening.
