We Love the Vegas

All my Vegas info is dated so it may no longer exist but if you happen to be at the Luxor and would like a sandwich, the Nile Deli near the sports book had a brisket on a Pretzel Roll that will change your life.

When I go to Vegas, I go from Poker Room to Poker Room and only do touristy stuff unless I am dragged kicking and screaming away from the Poker Table.

I know you can fire automatic weapons and do indoor skydiving over a giant fan. Supposedly the Pinball Museum is much better than it sounds.

My favorite part of going to Vegas is Sedona, AZ but it isn't a day trip from Vegas.

There are more world class restaurants in Vegas than any similar size city in the world so if you are serious about food, you can get a serious fix. Pretty much any chef that is anybody, has a restaurant in Vegas.

They changed the name of the Nile Deli to the Backstage Deli but other than that your information is right on the money (especially about the food and restaurants). If your having a hard time deciding between any of the Cirque shows; I will say that IMHO it is a waste of time and money to try Criss Angel's "Believe" as opposed to "LOVE" (phenomenal), "O" (terrific), or "KA" (equally good).

The Rio is great for a nice selection of Single-deck blackjack. . . at least last time I went (year and a half ago). Lower limits too, and since it's not directly on the strip, it's nowhere near as crowded as places like Caesars.

I mentioned in the shaving thread about a Barber Spa there too in Mandalay Bay that's worth trying if you like that sort of thing.

I'm going to Vegas myself at the end of April. . . besides the two things I've already mentioned, I have no other plans laid in stone, and I love it like that :)

Enjoy!

Thanks for all the great suggestions guys. There are so many places there, even trying to plan this out before hand seems like too daunting of a task. I might pick out one or two things ahead of time and just see what catches my fancy once we get there. Casa Fuente is definitely going to be on the list, I think we might have to go see "Love" as well, and then who knows what else.

One thing about Vegas, the buildings are so large that you perception of distance will be off by a considerable margin. You will look down the strip and say something like "That isn't very far away, I'll just walk." and about a mile later you begin to realize, it is much farther than it appears.

Regardless you will walk your wheels off because it is a long way across most of the casinos and probably a pretty good haul from your hotel room to the parking garage.

The Herf last year was our first trip to Vegas and we made this mistake. We walked from the Paris, where we were staying, down to the Stratosphere. I won't do it again, we took a taxi back to the Forum shops.

The rail system, that goes behind the casinos, is a great way to get around. We used it several times.

IMO, that's your best bet. Decide on a couple-three things that are "must see" and just let your interests carry you everywhere else.

If you do decide to go to Fremont Street (my favorite part of Vegas) just take the bus from the strip. It's cheap and easy transportation. Enjoy the trip, I'm sure you'll have a blast!

No doubt you mean you won't do it again NOT ONLY because of the distance. Some of that area beyond Sahara is dangerous territory with criminal elements lurking around. Even if you walk it at 7 am, expect to feel unwelcome.

Unwelcome we felt, for sure. Good thing I'm HUGE, nobody messed with us............. :sign:

BTW, we expect or at least I expect a trip report when you return.

My son and I walked from the MGM Grand to the Stratosphere once at 3:00am. Was an eye opening experience for him. Nobody messed with us but then again if you saw me walking down the street you probably wouldn't say to yourself "hey! Now there's an easy mark!"

North of Las Vegas 30 miles, the Valley of Fire Exit, FIREWORKS ???
Dicks Last Resort in the Excalibur, the wait staff is rude and nasty  and you are encouraged to be rude and nasty as well. FUN
The Rio World Buffet, best buffet in Vegas IMO

Have fun!
