I started to post this topic in the Buy/Sell/Trade section, but since I wasn't selling yet, I thought I would post it here first!

It appears that I need to, for the most part, give up cigars. So, as a result, I have quite a list of cigars to unload! I was thinking of doing this in a different manner:

I would post the whole list of cigars for sale (in the proper forum!).
Interested people could PM me with a proposed fiver that they wanted off the list.
I would PM them back with a total for that particular fiver.
After each "transaction", I would remove those cigars from the list.

That way, someone doesn't have to buy the whole lot of cigars. People might not want to plunk down hundreds of dollars at one time. Plus, if I picked the fivers, there may not be interest in what I lump together.

What is the general consesus on this? I know we are supposed to be up front with prices. I just thought this would be a better way to handle my situation. If it is okay with a majority of people, I will do it this way. If not, I will gladly follow standard board policy.

Jhawk- I dont really understand how you're trying to conduct your sale. If I were you I would just simply make a list of the 5ers/singles you have and have a price for each of those, anyone that wants to purchase a 5er can PM you and once that 5er is sold, then it should be removed from the list. It might help to create a spreadsheet and request members to E-mail you a request for the spreadsheet, thats how a BOTL is doing it on CW. I THINK this is what you were getting at though and I'm probably just restating what you said. :whistling:

Good luck with your sale. If i might ask, why do you need to sell your sticks?

Jhawk,

I think that as long as you list prices for each item, a "build your own sampler" concept could work. I'd suggest that you set a 5-stick minimum with no maximum so you're not sending out 30 or 40 single-stick packages. If you've got good stock, premiums and such, then this could work. If you've got a proportion of lower end or budget smokes, you might want to preassemble those into fivers or such as H311oLHD suggested. Overall, this is a novel idea and I'd guess it has been done or at least attempted here before.

If you've got a long list, then it might be a hassle for you to administer but that's up to you.

Of course the traditional approach would work too.

Best of luck to you and perhaps some day you'll dive back into the hobby.

Wilkey

This is unfortunate and I hope your decision is by choice.

Good luck with the process.

Dang JHawk, sorry to hear this. I was hoping to get together with you in the future for a smoke :) Now it'll just have to be a beer :) Which is fine as well.

As for the smokes, I think Wilkey is on the right track.

Hope all is ok bro... Good luck with the sale! I'll keep my eyes peeled for it!

In other words, we hope your wife/partner isn't forcing this decision upon you. :D Funny, but not funny. I second Jeff's sentiments and I'll definitely see if I can help relieve you of some booty.

I like this suggestion. On another note, good luck with whatever seems to be going on.

Whatever you decide is good. If you can add prices and build your own that is probably a good idea. My addy is in y profile if you want to do a megabomb and be done. Just trying to help out

Jon, I hope all is well on the home front, and the new family brings much joy. Please stick around and join in the chatter once in a while.

Sorry to hear that, Jon. I hope you're making the right decision. I'm sure the Brothers will take care of you.

It might just be easier and more simple to just list the cigars you have available and prices. For example: 11 RP 1990 Toros - $x.xx, 7 Tatuaje Regios $x.xx, etc.

There's no need to overcomplicate anything like this, just list what you've got and what you want for certain packages, whether they are by brand or just samplers.

Good idea... just list and inventory with quantity available and price per stick. Then people PM you with their wants, minimum of 5 or something.

Sorry to hear this Jon. Like the others said, I hope this is by choice and not by someone giving you a hard time about your hobby. :(

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! I had several people PM me yesterday and today showing interest in my list. I am getting that ready and will give it to those people in the order they PM'd me. If there is any cigars left, I will post in the proper forum. Unless my wife is just suffering from pregnancy hormones... in which case, I have led people on a wild goose chase.

Based on your comment, sounds like you are ok physically. As for the wife demanding you stop smoking, well I better keep my comments to myself. Just happy to hear you are ok. Take Care - Good Luck with the new baby.

Yeah I know I should be a real man and tell her to kiss my ass if she wants me to quit smoking. But I have decided that her and our child are a little more important than cigars.

Ah matrimonial bliss. Rather than selling your cigars, limit your smoking. Nothing like getting rid of something you enjoy and then kicking yourself later. My 1969 Z/28 bit the dust when I got married and I still regret getting rid of that car. Do you know what a replacement for that car would be now?

That is just my opinion so please your best judgment as you have to live with the little lady and we don't. Best wishes with the impending birth.

I agree w/ Tony. My wife is pregnant and due on 7/12. She's hyper sensitive to cigar smoke, so I've limited my smoking for her. She respects the fact that I enjoy cigars and she doesn't mind that, it's just the smell.

I'd just suggest limiting your smoking for the next 8 months, but by all means don't sell your stash. Once the pregnancy is over, your wife will be back to normal and you'll be all set. Plus the break might give you a better appreciation for cigars and let you enjoy the peace and quiet from the crying baby :sign:

I gotta agree with this. Don't sell your stash, not yet at least. See if things don't simmer down later. I bet they will and you're gonna need all those little therapists working for you later. Trust me....I got 6 kids.

:D

A noble choice! Might I offer an alternate choice? Close your humidors and put them someplace cool and wait for a year, periodically check RH. If you decide cigar smoking is okay you will have some sticks with more age. If not, you can always sell them later.

Either way, congrats on the pending arrival.
