ok so here's the story....

i had just received a shipment of my fave cigar (indian tabac super fuerte maduro) that day....i went to a party and took five with me to share in their glory....buddy asked for one so i gave it up....he wasn't finished so he asked me to cut it off and hold it for him....i did so in a cigar pouch with a humi-bag in it....well i proceeded to get pretty snookered....when i came home i was so drunk i just stuck the whole bag in my humidor.....

now my humidor smells like smoke instead of beautiful spanish cedar....

is there anything i can do to get that smell to go away?

i tried wiping it down with distilled water and leaving it open for about 20 hours but that didn't work...

HELP!!!

This beats your wasted roommate throwing up all over your humidor when you aren't home!

Yes...that happend to me.

i wouldn't have a roomate anymore if that happened to me....

Empty it out, put some actvated charcoal or baking powder in their to absorb the smell. Also search around the board. I seem to recall this happening to a fellow CPer a while back.

X2

Saving a partially smoked cigar? That is nasty and can't believe anyone would enjoy that. Do you always store and carry around your buddies butts? :whistling:

How does the humidor smell like smoke if everything was in a cigar pouch and then a humi bag? Those humi bags are thick and would not allow the stank to escape no?

Regardless, the above recommendations will help.

i told him it wouldn't be any good later on but he insisted upon keeping it....it was only half gone.....

and i have no clue how that smell got through....i checked the bag afterward and i couldn't see anything wrong with it....

thanks for the replies

This happened to me the other day as well. My desktop smells like nasty smoke now. :( I'm gonna do some research on it. If I find anything, I'll toss a linky here. :)

Couple other things. Try setting it out inthe sun for the day, open obviously. Second, and this has worked for me in the past, try filling it with newspaper. Absorbs smell pretty well.

You're screwed.

I would listen to what Shane (Shooter) said above for your best chance of getting rid of that smell.

Baking powder or Baking Soda Shooter ?

Also Newspaper is a great idea. Thats how you can get rid of the pickle smell from a pickle jar.

As far as the puke all over a humi..I'd make the roommate remove all particles with his tongue

What ever arm and hammer makes in the yellow boxes is thestuff I am talking about.

A cigar that has been put out smells 10x worse than a cigar that goes out. All the carbon builds up inside of the cigar... yuck.

Your humidor is screwed, IMHO. My old roomate had a humidor and bought a box of Kahula cigars... I filled that humidor with inserts from empty boxing and alot of the smell came out (after trying this for a couple of months) but it wasn't worth my time. Toss it and consider this a life lesson.

i'm gonna do what i can to save it....i'll keep ya'll posted as to what i've done....

as of 12:35 am....i put arm & hammer baking soda in there resting on a clean paper towel....the smell is just about gone but i can still tell that it was there at some point...i'm gonna leave it in there for another day or so and see if it completly goes away.....

ok...well i left the arm and hammer baking soda in there for about a day....the smell is only slightly less so now i'm gonna leave it open in the sun for a while....

yea...sorry shooter

i left it out for about 8 hrs. in the texas heat and now finally it is back to normal...the humidity is right at 70 and the temp is an even 66

i'm glad i didn't have to buy another one but now that i've done some research i think i wanna have a go at building one....we'll see

That is the way it goes. Personally you might want to get a large coolidor and fill it first. Then you will know if you are going to stick with the cigar habit/hobby. I know I tend to go overboard on projects and sink alot time and money into something then in 6-8 weeks I get bored and move on. That is what my wife says!! To each his own man, a few words of advice:

"Go big, or go home"
