So I checked the mail today, and there's a package from a fella named "David Yoshida." I don't remember ordering what was inside, but there it was, packaged up all nicely. I pulled my damn hair out searching and searching, and it finally dawned on me who it was from. You dirty punk! I couldn't wait to light one up, so here I am doing a review on one of Pete's newest creations thanks to Mr. Forcible Entry, you stinkin' redbelly!!
Also, I went and exchanged my Blackberry, so pictures are aplenty in this review. Also, since the beginning of all the hoopla about how big of a powerhouse these firecrackers are, I'm doing this review on an empty stomach.
Cigar: Tatuaje T110
Size: 4 1/2 X 52?
Wrapper: Nicaraguan Ligero
[b}Filler:[/b} Nicaraguan Ligero
Binder: Nicaraguan Ligero
Start Time: 1651 hours
Initial Impressions: As soon as I took one out of the bag they came in, I could pick up the power of pepper in my nostrils. I brought the foot up to my nose and took a huge whiff and actually sneezed... I don't know about this one guys, but I've been wanting to try one of these babies, just on an empty stomach seems kind of stupid now.
The Smoke: After clipping the cap, I take a draw and huge flavors of fruity sweetness come from the cigar, just that unmistakable taste of fermented tobacco. It's so good, and my lips are left burning... Time to toast the foot folks; we'll see who's got the bigger balls here, Petey. :sign: I toast the foot, and use my handy dandy Xikar FlintFire II to light her up. Man oh man is this thing powerful. I'm blasted with a ton of peppery taste, and full bodied smoke. It's a real "punch in the mouth" taste if you will.
I just wanted to add that since I know there are some purists here who categorize beer as a source of food and say it is the same as eating a few pieces of bread, I will deter from my normal accompanying bottle of beer in exchange for a nice cool glass of water. Now we're really playing with fire!
A-M-A-Z-I-N-G. Wow. I completely understand the hype behind this cigar now. The flavors are just opening up, the full-bodied kick is still there, and it's spice spice spice. It's really enough to make your head spin a bit, and catch you in the throat. Since when does Pete Johnson make violent cigars?!? The ash is holding up very well, and simply fell off at about 1/2" inch in the smoke. Producing luminous volumes of peppery smoke, this baby is sure to offend any non-cigar connoisseur within walking distance of your local B&M!
Come on Petey-boy, when are you going to make a real man's cigar!?! I'm into the halfway point, and I'm still waiting to throw up. I have to admit, my head spinning, but Soulpuppy's not green just yet... The cigar is beginning to mellow out in terms of spice, but it isn't letting up in it's bold flavor. Alot of chocolate notes, with a fruity spice is coming through, and I can definitely see myself buying a box of these. I gotta check up on the price point because, as with all things Pete Johnson, it's new, limited, and pricey as hell. Ash is still holding up like a champion, and the draw is smooth as silk. I think if this cigar wasn't so expensive, it'd be a great "Dare Box" to keep around for your more, shall we say, snobby casual cigar friends who claim they'll smoke anything that you can smoke!
It's getting a little bitter now, so I think I might slow down a bit. I heard about this part from Sneeds, and I can only conjecture that this may be attributed to the small vitola packed with so much ligero, or it could just be that I picked this up in the hot summer mailbox. Anyone have any ideas? ??? After a little purge, we're back in business. Dangit...it went out while I was on the phone with CRQuarto! Thanks for ruining my mojo dude! :sign: I relight, and it seems like it's helped put away some of the bitterness, and the flavor is back in the saddle for the final run.
Coming to the end here, sadly. After that burnout, the relight has been as flavorful as the beginning. My lips are stinging with the pepper from the wrapper, and pepper pepper pepper from the smoke. This cigar is a beautiful thing ladies, everyone should try one of these, as it did not disappoint.
Overall: The T110 was everything I have read, except it didn't knock me on my ass. I can still do pushups, so I know I'm okay. I would definitely buy a box for this smoke, and I would readily pay $12-$15 for these. In fact, like I said earlier, I'd get two boxes: One for me, and one "Dare Box" to just throw at smokers to see them turn green! Thanks again to 4clbn3 for a dynamite chance at a great stick! I'm still standing, and the score is Souldoggy: 1, Tatuaje: 0! I think if this sucker came in a Churchill size, I'd have something to worry about...
