I'm looking to trade for a Burr grinder and I've found a couple cheaper models I'd like to try. Does anyone have any opinions on the below grinders or can recommend a comparable priced model?

I have a friend who is a BIG coffee guy who just bought the Capresso a couple months ago. He loves it, uses it every day. He did a bunch of research before he bought one, and considered some that are WAY more expensive, and decided for everyday use, the Capresso does a great job for the price.

I have been using a Capresso drip with timer for the past 5 years, and it is awesome, I think they make top quality stuff.

What's it for? Coffee or Cap? or both?

You could always go with this:

I would read up on this site. This is a site Mr. Jerry gave me when I had many coffee questions. I think you'll find it useful and hopefully it will help you decide which of the two is better quality.

This is the burr that came to my mind. I guess I need to drink more coffee.

I have a Capresso CoffeeTeam maker. I love it! It combines a burr grinder with the coffee maker.
So far it has been a very well built maker that makes great coffee.
Just my two cents worth.

There's alot to take in for a good quality GRINDER Brando. Adjustments, conical vs. plate, HEAT, friction - all factors in the true flavor of the bean. I went with the one I linked, but of coarse looked towards Ebay for a deal - which can be found. Good luck - let us know what you end up with.

I have the Krups GVX 1 Burr Grinder. I don't remember what I paid, maybe $50. It works great except for the coarse-to-fine setting. When I put it on full coarse grind (french press) it grinds it very fine. Then I put it on fine, it comes out very fine. If I put it in the middle? I get a perfect, coarse grind.

So, for a few extra dollars, find a better grinder. I'm stuck with mine, but it still grinds a coarse bean at the half setting.

I have a Solis Maestro PLUS as well (recieved as a gift). It does a good job but seems to have a lot of static. I remedy the static by using a ZeroStat anti-static gun.

I love my krupps grinder. I would reccomend it. My only beef is that the hopper is not labeled to indicate how full to fill it for 2 cups, 4 cups.....etc it just autoshuts off when it is done, so if you run out of beans midway through you can be screwed :)

My grinder crapped out on me today, so I'm bumping this to see if anyone else has some recommendations on a good, reasonably priced burr grinder.

Thanks

A lot of good ones shown. Another feature to consider is a static free recepticle. This was you don't decorate your kitchen counter every morning.....it's maddening

:D

I have the Krups model, and while it works fine and gets the job done I have a couple issues with it.

First, the beans don't always evenly flow down to the grinding blade/burr, so I often have to stand there and give it a nudge or shake to get it to keep on grinding away, as opposed to just spinning freely really damn fast and loud.

Second, the ground coffee then seems to gain a static charge or something, because when I remove the container the grounds always seem to jump out onto my hand or all over the kitchen counter. It's just an annoying little mess, and it seems that every day after using it I find myself having to clean up a big mess on the counter.

I'm not sure if anyone else has ever noticed this, or if it's a problem inherent to all burr grinders.

Well no kidding! You must have posted this as I was typing mine! Do they make a static free recepticle for the Krups grinder, or is that a feature that is only on a couple models?

I don't know, but I know I saw one somewhere. Maybe kitchenaid.
I have a braun...it's about 14 years old. It does a good job at grinding, and decorating.

Just as a warning based on my personal experience, the Capresso base models can be very touchy. I had to have mine replaced three times before I finally gave up and used the store credit to buy a new saucepan

As with most appliances, the ones that most people buy are typically the most reliable. So low to mid priced might be the safest.
