La Flor De Baloney Challenge

Taste is subjective based on the individual. One may like them, one may not. It'll be an interesting read, though. Thanks for doing this.

I will play, I would love to try one of Lews terds, maybe I can get the review posted on his website

PM sent

They are not exactly one of Lew's "blends". I got my catalog the other day and just read all it had to say about them this morning.

In the actual cigar description is says "They are bundled segunds and production overruns made at the famed Villazon factory in Honduras...." Sounds like a Connie marketed against Rocky Patels '90 and '92 "vintage" cigars.

Lew on another board stated this print copy was accidentally screwed up

LEW on another board said:
The catalogue has a bad typo where they did a cut and paste and inserted a description from the Flor de Consuegra on the Flor de Baloney brand. These are all first quality cigars - and eventually the seconds of Flor de Baloney will wind up becoming Consuegras along with all the other Villazon brands.

So appearantly they are another villazon brand that are first run cigars.

Seth,

Not to sound contradicting but tht is some sloppy cut and pasting. Especially when the first sentence in the catalog description is "This brand is for those serious cigar smokers who appreciate a full, rich-tasting cigar adn want it at a serious discount" and the online description says "These first quality smokes, handmade at the famed Villazon Factory, are the equal of any brand in quality." IMO they are just remarketed products of his that are already being made there, possibly JR Ultimates, but I could be wrong.

Sorry for the "thread-jack" fellas but I thought those of you who might not get the JR Catalog might find this interesting.

I'm in. I just met a guy in Dana Point who claims to use the same factory as Rocky amongst other things. He said the 'vintage' line definitely isn't anywhere near that old and the filler in the edge is only 6-18 months

Well Mr. Insight what can i say why should the men who is a friend of Rocky & Client of Rocky tell this kind of things, i don't see the link, for sure not with Graig Cunningham as Mr. Fetter is mentioning,

I know Rocky very well and yes everybody tell's sales story, if you listen to all the stories, to give an example VSG Virgin Sun Grown, i mean that's also just a name and all part of the game, this wrapper seems to come from Oliva (John Oliva) and is sun grown on a special piece of land which was found by the beloved & great Angel Oliva, of course nice but why should Sun Grown be special in Ecuador, everybody in Ecuador grows sun because the natural envirement in Ecuador doesn't need tapa so at the end of the day every ecuador grown wrapper is automatically a sun grown.
and if you think that the people from Fuente, CAO, Perdomo, etc etc are telling exact the in's & out's
of course not, always a little extra cream on top. (Or sometimes a lot of Cream !!! LOL)

Rocky helped Craig to make his line of cigars Vigilante and another one, then Rocky allowed him even some space in Rockies Booth at the RTDA in New Orleans two years ago etc etc etc.

So i don't think that Craig would (even have the right to) reveal anything which speaks against Rocky.

in don't know how or what the thing is , but i think the big question is, do you like the cigar ? yes or no
then it doesn't matter that the cigar has 5 year old filler or 18 months, if you like the cigar, then it's OK

that's my opinion

I don't know who Graig Cunningham is and in fact I do like the cigars, particularly the 1990 torpedo. However, falsifying the age of the tobacco is deceptive advertising and that is really what is being discussed here. If you were to start a thread called "Who likes Rocky Patel Cigars" you will certainly get different responses than you will find in a thread discussing whether or not cigars are being falsely marketed as aged. I personally don't think there is anything remotely ok about misleading the customer about the origin and age of products.

I was under the impression that the dates offered would be the year the blend was formulated.

Perhaps there is a degree of allowing people to be mislead short of actually BS'ing...

..like the claims about pre-embargo tobacco thats been kept in storage for 40 years.

Dear Fellow Soon-to-Be-Baloney-Afficionados,

La Flor de Baloney has arrived. I hope to ship it out tomorrow to you. Unfortunately, the bundle will run out before I could accommodate all who wanted to participate and for that I apologize. The following participants should be getting a small baloney package next week. They are:

1) Herfin Bigdog
2) Vortex (if he sends me a name to mail to)
3) Seere
4) Davidr2340
5) Bilder
6) Tomthirtysix
7) Nullsmurf
8) OutlawD
9) Insight
10) Burnt Tongue

If I get to mail them out tomorrow I will let you know so you can be looking for them. As these cigars will have been in the mail for at least a week (coming from J&R to me to you) you may want to do whatever your custom is to ready them for smoke. G-d bless and let the fun soon begin!!

I know Craig and have always liked what cigars he had in his name...(he had rebanded Vintage 1992's with his own label for a while, with Rocky's OK). His cigars (Vigilante) I was told were blended with the help of Rocky and are being made in with his help as well. And I don't think that Craig is saying anything that speaks against Rocky...where did you get that?

But on to the Bologney!!!!!!

SJM,

You are of course shipping this baloney in refrigerated packaging, right?

Excellent! Thanks for allowing us to participate in this review. I hope to be able to smoke this in the brand new, nearby, cigar lounge that is supposed to open very shortly. If so, it may be the first cigar in the lounge that I smoke as I christen the lounge. :D

Dear Baloney Smokers,

INCOMING!!!!! I managed to get them mailed out today by overnight, airconditioned, humified, private jet!!! Well, maybe not. They are coming priority USPS and should be hitting your location Wednesday or Thursday next week. Let us know when they start arriving. I tried a couple but will hold off saying anything until you all get to smoke them. Just for the record, they are:

Flor de Baloney
Robusto, Maduro
5x50

I do believe we will have a topic to post next week. Let us see if J&R's insinuation about them being as good or better than RP Vintage to be true. I just want you all to appreciate the fact that this tobacco is over 100 years old!!! ( Or is that bullshitt??)
