I had really been looking forward to trying this smoke, gifted to me by my good friend DeVonn (Amateuraficionado), thanks brotha! The wrapper was very dark maduro, the darkest I’ve seen on a Cuban besides the Cohiba Maduros. Construction was good with only one vein running down the side. There was a good weight to the cigar and gave only slightly when squeezed. I punched the triple cap, put fire to the foot, and found the first draw to be perfect. Smooth and creamy smoke flowed into my mouth, and as I exhaled through the mouth and nose there was tastes of rich cocoa and cedar with a perfect balance of spice in the medium strength smoke.

I could recognize the Montecristo profile in this smoke, however a profound richness was in there that I did not get with the regular line (#1, #2, etc.). The cigar had an excellent burn throughout and ashed itself about every inch or so. This was definitely one of the best Montecristo cigars I’ve had to date. I would certainly love to have had a box of these.

Wow! That thing looks so tasty.
Thanks again Greg for taking the time to give us another great review!

Good review, Greg. I enjoy this cigar also, though I think we may be in the minority on this one. Believe it or not, boxes of these can still be found without too much effort.

As usual, great review. I had the pleasure of smoking one of these about a year ago. It was one of the best smokes I've had in a long time! BTW, I'm not sure what's better, your reviews or the pictures you provide. Both are impressive. Thanks for sharing the experience.

Thanks for the excellent review. It looks fantastic.

Thanks for the review. Sounds like these are ready to smoke NOW!!

Great review and pics as always, very similar to my experience with this cigar (all 20 something that I've smoked to date). This is a prime example of something I should have stocked up on way back when. They were around $300+ per box when they first came out, but the reviews or expectations just weren't that great. Now if you find them they are about $500+ per box. I picked up two boxes right away, one for a split then another just for myself. Then I picked up another box with my son's month/year of birth for the box code (July '03). Now I've smoked all the ones I'm allowing myself to smoke, and all I have left is the box for my son. :(

They can be found for less than $500. :whistling:

I had one tonight. I definitely agree on the maduro wrapper...very, very dark. I enjoyed this cigar, it exuded a semi-sweet chocolate taste throughout and hints of spices were present from time to time. For me, it didn't remind me much of the typical Monte twang (which tastes to me like a wonderful combination of cedar and muted citrus zest). I did enjoy the cigar, but, to my palate; the aged maduro wrapper that is used for ELs tends to quiet certain flavors that can be attributed to the various Cuban marcas.

Best,

Rob

Glad you enjoyed it Greg. The only reason I send you smokes is for the hope of getting a review... and some mouthwatering pics!
