I was gifted this cigar in a fiver from Rod one year ago (June 2008), and it’s been resting peacefully in one of the humis since. This is a nice looking Maduro figurado with a long tapered foot as well as tapered head. There are noticeable oils shining in the dark wrapper with prominent veins running the length. I clip the cap at an angle and put fire to the tiny foot and find a very good draw with a nice spice on the back of the throat from the what seems like full bodied smoke. I believe this may be due to the concentration of tobacco in the small foot.
As the burn spreads evenly to the larger area of the foot, the smoke is a good medium to not quite full with a perfect white pepper spice coming through. I can taste the sweetness of the maduro that is very good, and an earthy, leathery flavor as well with a dark roasted nut underneath those more predominant flavors.
Further in, the medium bodied smoke seems to mellow a bit and becomes rather creamy with the spice taking a back seat. Sweet earth and worn leather are still the predominant flavors, and very good. The burn is sharp with a medium gray ash forming that holds strong. Smoke is flowing freely in the perfect draw with a nice finish that is somewhat short on the palate.
A little over the halfway mark, I started getting a taste of chocolate along with other flavors as previously described. The burn has remained sharp with the ash holding strong so far. I’m letting it go as long as it will stay whole, doing well so far. Smoke is consistently a medium body with a splash of spiciness still hitting the back of the throat. The finish is still good upon exhaling, but quite short.
Towards the end the smoke started burning a bit hot as the draw seemed to open up a bit too much. There were a couple of serious veins that cause the burn to get a little awry. Mosquitoes were flying around giving me chills as the buzzed in my ears, so I decided to put the smoke down and head inside. This was a decent enough smoke with good flavors for most of the cigar. Dark and sweet with the thick maduro wrapper. Not something I probably buy a box of, however I would smoke another given the chance.
