As I smell the foot I pick up scents of cedar, leather and grass. The pre-light draw is promising showing signs of sweet leather and cedar.
The initial flavors were of leather, chocolate and spice. The spice I taste is a signature flavor for most Partagas Vitolas I have sampled. In the 1st inch earth tones start to appear while keeping that spice which at this point kind of reminds me of a well aged D4.
Into the 2nd inch More earth tones appear and the Partagas spice begins to build. There is still some slight leather hint but this cigar is starting to pick up some pepper, which is another trait of the Partagas line.
There is lots of smoke with this cigar. It is of full body w/ strong Partagas flavors. Getting to the 2nd half the pepper just increases and the entire flavor profile becomes more full bodied.
Now that I am good and into the 2nd half a tartness shows up that is rather refreshing. The after taste of this cigar is very pleasant and it definitly reminds me of the 1st Partagas D4 I ever smoked. This is truly a fantastic vintage cigar. I could see the box sitting on my shelf for another few years though.
The last 1/4" still has a rather earthy flavor w/ almost a meaty flavor to it. Smoke that you can almost sink your teeth into.
As I get toward the nub it does start to get a little hot so I purge after every other puff. This seems to solve the heat problem. This is also another cigar that needs to be smoked slowly in order to totally appreciate.
The nub stage was very tasty w/ less pepper and more of that Partagas spice and earth.
Impression of this cigar was that it was one of the stronger of the aged cigars that I have reviewed so far. I am definitly glad I bought the box. I will enjoy these cigars over the next several years as I can still see them improving with even more age. I hope you enjoyed the review.
Maybe another box is in order.
