Guns

I'm not sure the amount of tannerite we blew up this weekend is legal! šŸ˜‚

Also on the hunt for a shotgun now...

What kind of shotgun are you interested in? (None of mine are for sale, I'm just curious.)
12 gauge, I've got a nice 20 gauge my son shoots. Left handed, so looking at over/unders, but damn are they expensive! Maybe a CZ Drake, but I honestly don't know anything about them other than what I've read online and shooting my friends CZ .308.

Planning a cleaning day for the tools, maybe this weekend. Going to try Ballistol to see how it works out. CLP and Wilson Combat's synthetic oil are the usual chemicals...figured I'd give the green can a try.

For what purpose?

Can't go wrong with a Citori, of course. But I have a Charles Daly trap gun that is very nice, and for a lot less money. I've read that some of the Daly's are basically Citoris (part interchangeable). I don't know if that's true but I really like the Daly.

Trap shooting mainly, but will probably shoot some ducks and geese with it occasionally, maybe pheasant too. I know very little about shotguns, so have been digging into them a little. CZ seems well regarded and comes with 5 chokes. I'll check out the Daly too.

I think most people use a single for trap.

The Browning BT-99 is well regarded. The Stevens 555 is pretty affordable. Some of the Italian makes are quite nice.

Funny thing about trap, trap shooters can be kinda snooty. Including about the make of gun you're shotting. :]

Meh, if they want to be snootty they can bite me, I don't like ejecting shells at myself. Never had one hit me, and probably wouldn't care if they did, just in my head. Guessing there's probably a significantly different vibe at the trap clubs here vs there, and I've seen people shooting over/unders and side by sides, but again don't really care anyway. Most of the time will be at my friend's cabin anyway.

All that being said, I'll check those out, thanks!

I've got some cleaning to do after this weekend. Been using shooter lube for cleaning, and have been pretty happy with it. Wilson Combat oil user here too.

Did a ton of rabbit, pheasant, and grouse hunting with an 870 Wingmaster. Moved to an 1100, and then to a Stoeger Condor O/U.

Stoeger was clearly my favorite because of how quick it came on point.

I've seen people shoot every kind of shotgun at trap ranges. I mostly shoot at a public range, and it's not snooty at all. The clubs, otoh,... well, yeah. I have the same attitude, they can bite my ass. Particularly if I'm shooting above 15 or so. Still, it is what it is.

Donā€™t know anything about trap shooting, or any guns made after 1945, but my Remington Model 10 is nifty, and is bottom-ejecting. It would probably be just fine for lefties.

I just went down a rabbit hole.

I am no professional at all when it comes to shotguns but I would look at how the gun feels weight wise. If you are shooting trap or sporting clays for a few hours that weight starts to make a difference Chokes are obviously important when hunting small game like pheasant. Huge difference between a clean bird or the one with a huge hole in it

I love Tannerite! I canā€™t post a vid, but weā€™ve had some fun her at the house with that chit!

Step 1 : if there is a local trap shoot around you, that has vendors, go check out the guns. See what fits and points where ya aim. If ya hafta wiggle it around to get comfy, scrap it.

Step 2 : if ya want a multipurpose gun, the the single shot trap guns ainā€™t for you. BT99 is a great one shot trap gun, nothing more.

Step 3 : 870ā€™s and model 12ā€™s will fit the bill. You can get a ā€œtrap set upā€ model and still kill doves, ducks with it. No need for left hand model. Ejected shells AINā€™T gonna hit ya in the face. Iā€™ve shot 870ā€™s for years, left handed, and ainā€™t never been hit. I shoot a model 12 trap now, left and right handed, and love it. If cops can screw up an 870, ainā€™t no normal human going to.

Step 4 : shoot what feels good and you can afford. Too many guys wanna sell ya what ya ā€œneedā€, but wouldnā€™t pay the money if they were buying. The old saying is, ā€œfear the man that only shoots one gun!ā€ Truth is string here!

If ya wanna shoot the bull further, feel free to pm me and Iā€™ll give ya my cell number. The left hand pursuit may not be necessary.

Enough. Enjoy.

My dad bought a 12 Ga Beretta BL-4 back in the early 70's to shoot trap with, didn't like it, gave it to me and I've been using it so long it's like a part of me when shooting. Quick on the target is what I always noticed. I've only ever shot birds with it (IC/M) and have done really well. He used an 870 and 1100, I like the 1100 OK, never really liked the 870, it is set up for trap/skeet and has a stock where you can't really line the sights up, shoots naturally high to hit a rising target I think was the purpose.
