I found this lil bugger long forgotten and I'm unsure if it's a OR or regular release. From what I know the obvious difference between the OR and regular release is the OR's are round while the regular release are box pressed. To me it looks like a OR but I can't recall how I got it and it wasn't labeled. What do you guys think? Does it go back into the humi or to the flame.

The crown should be rounded at the top like other ashton bands if it is a round. The change to the 'crowned' band didn't occur until last year.

OMG! I just realized I just smoked an OR?!? I went to smoke an el rey de los habanos but it was plugged like a mofo so after the struggle I went to my cigar that has never let me down, the VSG. (also a beli size) I just checked the band and guess what..... It has the rounded crown! Must have been light headed from trying to pull that pepin. lol.

There's actually three different versions of the VSG band:

1) Oldest is a rounded band top with the word "Cabinet."

2) The next version had a scalloped top with the word "Cabinet."

3) Newest (which is the current band) has a scalloped top WITHOUT "Cabinet."

In any case, you have a current release VSG.

Um, just because it has a rounded crown doesn't guarantee it to be an OR VSG, just that it was released before the 2nd revision of the band.

What is the difference between the VSG and the VSG cabinent? BTW I love these cigars, still prefer opus's though.

No difference. They just got rid of the "Cabinet" on the current VSG labels to end confusion between the Ashton Virgin Sun Grown and the Ashton Cabinet. They are two very different cigars.

I 2nd that question...I have one that says VSG Cabinet...scalloped top I believe....the sticker from the store says it's an Illusion...

I see. It did have a good box press to it which made me assume it was a RR. Good to know all the little things into the history of a great cigar. Thx gents.

The rounds taste pretty different if that helps. Yeah the round to crown band change was recent so not a tell.

So the VSG cabinent that I have will taste different than a regular VSG? I picked a VSG cabinet up a while back and havent gotten around to smoking it yet. I love the regular VSG's though.

No, the VSG Cabinet and VSG are the same cigar. Only the band changed.

They might taste different since the one with the "cabinet" is older, but that's about it.

Ok sweet. Thanks for the info. Hopefully it'll be tasty when i finally decide to light it up as it has some age on it now.

I think tapewormboy meant that they took away the 'cabinet' on the VSG's so that it doesn't confuse it with the Ashton Cabinet selection line. right? ???

This can be settled very easily. What is the size of the cigar in question?
