I remember my mom showing me some photos of the moon and the earth when I was a kid. They amazed me. I learned about astronauts in school and decided that was what I wanted to be when I grew up. A short time later the Challenger disaster happened and I changed my mind about that occupation. I never really had any career aspirations and ended up working for my family's construction company. It's a good job and I get to spend a lot of time with my family. Some times I just wish that I had done something different. I just don't know what that something could have been.

I hear ya. I work for a family business as well, and while it's great to spend time with he family and the pay is good there's always the what could I be doing if I were something else. Not to mention the fact that all business worries come home with you at night.

I guess it's the grass is always greener theory.

I wanted to be rich, as you can see I'm still working at it!

Wanted to be: artist, industrial designer
What I am now: not an artist or industrial designer

Once I grow up I'll let you know.

Coming from parents who never had anything to fall back on. I swore that I would never work for a boss.

My goal was to be my own boss, I didn't care what I did, just be my own boss. I had my first business at 21. It was challenging. Subsequently I had many businesses. In the early days of our marriage, my wife and I fell down hard, really hard, on our asses twice, ending up with nothing. We have now been in the same business for 20 years.

Looking back, it has been a great ride and the journey continues. :D

Wanted to be a doctor (MD) when I was much younger. Didn't do it. Too late now for all intents and purposes, but I may yet move into something more useful than what I do now...

My eldest brother started studying to be a doctor at 30. Took him 7 years but he did it. It still amazes me and I guess proves that its never too late.

I wanted to be in the NBA...but when I stopped growing at 5'10" I though it might be better to try something else.

Something where I can make a difference in the world and be respected..............and when that fell through, I decided to go to law school

Oh, it could be done, but 30's much younger than a few months shy of 40.

We'll see. :)

I wanted to be a cop. Right now I am 33 and working on that goal.

I wanted to be an architect, I ended up an accountant. It sucks, but the pay isn't terrible.

Last time I was visiting my parents my mom showed me this old paragraph I wrote in junior high about what I wanted to be. I said I wanted to look for cures for disease and it worked out as that's what I do now. I fell into peer pressure in college and though about going to the dark side (Med School), but then I missed the MCAT by showing up late and fell in love with research.

I wanted to be a fighter pilot, when I found out there was math involved, I decided I wanted to be a cop.

Well after taking a little from column A and alittle from column B I grew up to be a

Military Cop

I never thought I'd live past 21. I was a bit of a hellion. Maybe I wanted to be a Police Officer. Other than that, nothing really sticks out.

I wanted to be an orthopedic surgeon. I had an injury when I was 13 that cut the nerves to most of my left hand (especially the first 3 fingers) so that was out. I then concentrated on becoming a lawyer. I got through a little over a year of law school and figured out that I was pretty full of crap, but not full of enough crap to be an attorney. I started down the road of working with troubled teens and then we moved to MN. Since then, I've been Dad with a few odd jobs here and there while we got on our feet. Now, I'm just Dad.

When I was 6 I apparently told my teacher that I was going to be a Playboy photographer. I've not been smacked as hard as my mother smacked me by anyone since. My uncle got a good smack, too. He's the one who told me that would be the best job in the world. I didn't know what the hell Playboy was, but after my mom reacted the way she did, I made sure to find out!
