Commemorative Smokes for the 50th Anniversary of the Cuban Revolution

I don't mean to start a controversial thread, and I'm sure there're people of mixed and resentful opinions on here, but I just wanna remind the community that the Fiftieth Anniversary of the Day Fulgencio Batista fled the Presidential Palace in Habana on January 1st, 1959, marking the Victory of the Cuban Revolution, is this Thursday. I'm just wondering if anyone here is planning on smoking some nice Habanos to mark this momentous occasion. I myself am planning on smoking the famous Perla; the Cohiba Siglo I, to get things goin' and then after I get my palate warmed up, I'm gonna have my beautiful Lonsdale; a Bolivar Gold Medal, the most prized cigar of the brand founded in homage to El Libertador, Simon Bolivar, for Fifty Years of Liberation of the Great Island Nation from the grip of tyranny and imperialism, to finish it up. I don't wanna start a flame war, here, so I just ask that those who decide to post in reply to kindly discuss what they will be smoking to commemorate this occasion, if any, and nothing more. I understand that there's bound to be people on here who have negative opinions of the Cuban Revolution and its legacy, so I emphatically remind those that do that this is not the point of this thread. I hope that I've reminded those who may be unaware, those that may have forgotten or those that simply haven't thought about it yet and would very much like to have a truly remarkable excuse to pull out that fantastic Habano they've been saving for a fantastic day to celebrate with it. ¡Viva la Revolución Cubana!

Might I point out that the nationalization of Cuban tobacco products greatly impacted the quality and reputation of the nation's famed exports in a hugely negative way for many years?

It's true that in the last several years quality control has improved vastly, but I do wonder about the comparative quality of a non-nationalized Cuban tobacco product if history was altered. Pure speculation of course.



Your post could not have ever been made in good taste and included the points you covered at the same time. Including comments like '¡Viva la Revolución Cubana!' just seals the deal mate.

If you are not a troll, at least stop hiding under bridges that make you look and smell like one.
 
so, I started reading up on Batista and found this:

Through Lansky, the mafia knew they had a friend in Cuba. Gangster Lucky Luciano, after being deported to Italy in 1946, went to Havana with a false passport. A summit at Havana's Hotel Nacional, with mobsters such as Frank Costello, Vito Genovese, Santo Trafficante Jr., Moe Dalitz and others, confirmed Luciano's authority over the U.S. mob, and coincided with Frank Sinatra's singing debut in Havana. It was here that Lansky gave permission to kill Bugsy Siegel for skimming construction money from the Flamingo in Las Vegas.​

This made me think of Casino, which made me think of Goodfellas, Scarface, and The Godfather. I can't stand all of these movies. Why everyone loves these movies really escapes me. Especially The Godfather, what a piece a trash that movie is. "I did not care for The Godfather. Did not care for The Godfather. Didn't like it. Couldn't get into it. It insists upon itself. It takes forever getting in, spend like six and a half hours, I can't even get through the thing. I have tried on three separate occasions to get through it and I get to the scene where the three guys are sitting around in the easy chairs and I have no idea what they are talking about, it's like they're speaking a different language, that's where I lose interest."

Honestly, I really didn't want to start something that ended.. like this... I apologize for starting a thread which was only received in bad taste for pretty much the entire board. I only wished to discuss Habanos and wanted to gauge CP demographics for those that might be planning to smoke some nice ones on this occasion as I am. And for those of you who indulge in mostly or exclusively non-Cubans, I respect your points of view and I respect your smoke. I guess I shoulda seen this coming, and I actually expected a few posters to reply with the "NON CUBAN" remark in an act of defiance, so I kindly ask you all to forgive me for royally putting my foot in it. Rest assured, I had not the intention of trolling, as much as it may seem the opposite, and after seeing that this has only been an unpleasant experience for those who come here to simply talk fondly of cigars, I promise not to politicize my threads in any way from here on out; I will keep it exclusively to cigars. I hope that those of you that I have offended understand that it was not my intention, and I forewarned that I was attempting not to focus on the political aspects of it, but, then again, this is an invariably political subject.

Honestly, I would like nothing more than to foster courteous, friendly and, at the very least, "diplomatic" relations with all members of this board, but I do appreciate the healthy sense of humor which has been present in this thread. :laugh:
