Anyone else following the Clemens/Senate catfighting? I'm admirable of Clemens for what he's done and how long he's done it but am not really a huge fan so my feelings are mixed on the outcome. Although no real, hard evidence will likely be produced (the empty syringe's could be from injecting him with B12 like Clemens claims) but the circumstantial evidence is pretty damning in my opinion. I'm not sure whether he did or he didn't but that picture that they think is so damning comparing a 1986 Clemens and a 2008 Clemens is laughable. Unless you're Paul Newman, no one looks the same at 42 as they did at 22. Now if he looked that much larger over the course of an off-season, then I would say that the picture is indeed credible. Regardless of the outcome, Clemens is correct in saying he will never get his reputation back. Only time will tell if this is justified or not.

I still don't know who to believe.

Pretty sure more then 80 players have used steriods, no matter what the Mitchell Report states.

Well, the Mitchell Report never claimed to be a full list. Actually, it states the opposite. It lists the players it found using the resources they had. And Clemens is a scumbag. Throwing his wife under the bus, saying it was her using it? Can't say I'm surprised, though.

I really enjoyed watching him stumble over his words. Andy Pettite must have mis-remembered? LMAO!

Just wish he would come clean and get this shit over with. There are far better things to spend the money on, besides this drama.

I agree with you there, Tommy.

So let me get this straight...

"Meet my best friend, Andy. Andy is a fantastic guy who is beyond reproach. Andy admitted he used HGH as was claimed in the Mitchell Report. My best friend, Andy, used the same trainer that I used. My best friend used HGH. Hell, even my wife used HGH. But I never used HGH (or steroids)."

Clemens is a complete asshat (btw... McNamee is as well). Regardless of whether you agree that there should even be a hearing about something like this with all that's going on in the country, the hearing took place and all of Clemens' "I'm an all-American-guy-spin" was pretty laughable.

Andy Pettitte has absolutely nothing to gain by lying in this matter.

I believe Pettitte.

I always thought Clemens was not very smart. This whole thing has just reinforced my opinion.

Putting his wife out there like that is just despicable.

First off, let me be clear that I am not defending the use of steroids or Clemens character (or lack of). I do personally believe the trainer (stooge) is a real dirtbag and knows more than he’s telling and less about what he is saying is true.

That being said, my family and I have been in and around semi-pro & professional sports for years, and know many athletes that have used steroids, HGH, B-12, GHB, etc, and many who have not. Professional sports, baseball, football, hockey, and basketball in particular demand a high performance level from the top athletes. Keeping one’s body at peak performance after the pounding of physical contact and enduring harsh playing conditions takes a toll on ANYONE’s body. If the latest technology was not used, then these bodies would wear out pretty quick, and the demands of the sport/business don’t allow that. We are kidding ourselves if we think these athletes don’t use something, not regularly used by the public, to enhance their ability to recover, perform, and maintain the size needed to play at that elite level. IMO it seems hypocritical for Congress to parade these players in front of the media while ads for Viagra & Cialis fill the commercial breaks. Don’t forget, some of the ballplayers of the 30’s & 40’s were amphetamine freaks, and the 70’s brought us Vicadin, Demerol, & Darvocet. What the H-E- double hockey sticks is Congress doing investigating this – sound like a bunch of jock sniffers doing what Congress does best – NOTHING. Protecting kids?; BS, try face time for reelection.
Let’s not leave out the trainers, some are not the innocent lackey of the athlete, but rather a pusher for the organization, and told to do what they need to do to allow the star athlete to perform, often issuing ultimatums to the player. Remember these guys are not a Doctor and don’t take the Hippocratic Oath. If their athlete makes it big, they go along for the ride like this guy, but when the gravy train ends they revert to the rat bastids they are. This is not an excuse or argument, just a perspective.

Let me make my position on ths clear. Roger = Liar. With that said if you still believe, I have that bridge still avaiable for sale.

I feel for his wife. Has he no shame?

I think Clemens is only ruining his reputation by fighting it like this. If he would have just been like Petite and say, "yes, I used it back in the day", things would have passed by him. Now that he is fighting it, no matter what the final result is, people will remember it. Frankly, I think he is lying and is just going to get himself charged with perjury.

Does anyone know why Selig wasn't capable of handling this "in house" without wasting taxpayer money (although Congress would definitely find someway else to waste it if not on these hearings)? This whole thing reminds me of the scene in Godfather II where Fredo's drunk wife is dancing with other guys and falling all over the dance floor. Fredo is Selig, his wife is players on steroids and Rocco is Congress. In the movie Rocco says something to the effect of "Mike says if you can't take care of this, then I have to." to Fredo and Fredo, knowing his own weakness lets Rocco take care of something he should be doing. To me, this exemplifies what Selig has let this great game become and I simply don't think he has the testicular fortitude to fix it.
