Just go to this site (this one right here) and on the left hand side enter your country. Then enter your state and city and see if you can see the Space Shuttle and International Space Station fly overhead some evening. It shows up as a very bright satellite but it moves about 5 times as fast across the sky. We have watched the last several opportunities, but I'm afraid it will be too cloudy tonight.

Good luck!

Very cool!
Saw the shuttle going over Utah once and it was neato!

Thanks Alan, very cool!!!
Pretty cloudy here as well, I'll have to check next week!!!

Thanks for posting that LilBastage, the wife and I just watched it go over. It was very brief, but impressive, when you think about what you are seeing.

bump, looks like we'll get a couple more chances to check this out!

I know I'll be outside tonight at 9:33 looking 33degrees above east with my son!

We've watched a few of these and I've let my boy stay up and watch two. After explaining what the shuttle and space station are and showing him pictures in books and on the internet, he was very excited to see the light go by. We may have a Neil Armstrong or Gus Grissom on our hands now!

Take the opportunities when they present themselves. It's absolutely the greatest feeling in the world to see your child's eyes light up with amazement and wonder...

Iridium Flares are another fun thing to watch for.

Here is a great site for predicting iridium flares and shuttle passes:

If you are a Ham Radio operator, you can contact the shuttle or space station with a simple hand held transciever. I have made digital contacts with the space station many times, but have missed the times when the astronauts are talking to folks on earth.

Great photo! What scope did you use, a Meade, Orion, Celestron or something else? Motor drive with remote or manual control? Big 'scopes always fascinate me.
