I'm 19 and today I had all 4 of wisdom teeth taken out. With a mouth full of gauze and a body full of laughing gas fresh out of surgery the nurse asked if I was ok and of I had any questions. My answer? This hurts like hell and when can I have a cigar? They all laughed and said sorry honey that'll be a 2 week minimum... Now I look like a chipmonk and I'm constantly doped up on Vicodine... I hate wisdom teeth. Happy smoking! :p

The thing that really sucks! I just bought a pipe and a couple of different kinds of tobaccos to experiment with. I've always loved cigars, so I figured hey what the he'll why not try a pipe. So these next two weeks I'm going to be tortured staring at my new Meeerschaum Sherlock Holmes Head pipe and some Black Cavendish tobacoo haha. As my good buddy jokingly says: Lifes a bitch, then you die. Lol hope you guys can catch a laugh. Have a great weekend!

Hopefully you didn't go to a chop shop. I could give you a horror story about extractions but I'll spare you. ;) Sufficed to say, I was unhappy and never went back. Since then, I've gone through a dentist who is nothing short of a wizard.

I love nitrous!!

Hope you don't get what I've heard to be called "Dry socket". I'm not sure what happens but I've heard it's painful!!! Luckily the orthodontist I went to made some room for my wisdom teeth so hopefully they won't have to come out!

I had the same done in March. I feel your pain, believe me. Hang in there and enjoy the scrips, you'll be back to cigars in no time.

I had 3 dry sockets when I got mine pulled. Basically instead of healing over, the open hole is exposed. Yup, they suck pretty friggin bad. Hope you pick out a good cigar for your first one after recovery!

I'm soooooooo smart.........

That all my teeth are wisdom teeth...........LOL!!!!!

Suck it up wuss, I was smoking 72 hrs after I had mine done by USAF Dentists.

Seriously, that is pretty bad, hang in there and do what they told you to do and take care of yourself.

I am sure they told you this, but just in case... stay away from anything that makes a sucking sensation... straws, pipes, cigars, porn... I KID I KID, it will cause reverse pressure rip out stitches and all in all cause a great deal of pain. Ice cream with a spoon is your friend.

You made a smart move by having them all removed at once. I had all four removed a few years ago. The first few days are the worst, after that it gets better. I didn't smoke for a month, just to be safe. Vicodine works wonders. :) Hang in there...

I had 5 teeth removed all at the same time immediately after a root canal or two. That next few days were horrible, so I understand your pain. You'll be fine, but listen to what they said. It may suck not being able to smoke right now and it hurts a lot, but dry socket can take a long time to heal and you still won't be able to smoke through it. So it can suck a little now or much more later.

Couldn't agree more with the nitrious. Best part was the nurse they had walk me back to my room was absolutely bea-utiful and she had me "dance" with her back to the room. So yeah it may have been 5th grade style, arms locked, hands fully extended at the waste, but she was a hotty and she was digging my shirt :p . Thanks for all the advise I didn't know about the straws, and as far as the porn goes I think I can still be sucked on right?! Haha jk jk Hope everyone is having a great weekend and some awesome smokes. I'm going to make my day a little brighter and have a vicodine ;) (Pain is the worse in the morning).

Here's a quote of the day that has nothing to do with my post but I heard it and found it very helpful

-Just remember no matter how long a person is in your life, just smile because it happened.-

I had mine removed when I was in boot camp. I had 19 shots of novacaine no nitrous and I still could feel it. The nurse said something to the affect of "Aren't Marines supposed to be badasses?". So I basically got pinned down and they ripped them out. They said I couldn't eat solid food for a week. I said yeah... my ass... and walked straight to the chow hall from dental. But the shit outta my mouth and everything tasted like blood... but hey... at least I got to eat my food for once! lol

I had dry socket just recently from a double root canal and extraction on one side.

I hate the fuggin' dentist. They charge way the hell too much, and everything they do hurts me.

I feel your pain! Twice I've had dry socket after teeth extraction, probably due to smoking cigs at the time, and I remember the pain vividly. There is no novacaine for that procedue the dentist said, just grab the chair rails and hold on!
Take it easy on yourself! :)

Actually, dry sockets are easily treated. A long thin piece of gauze soaked in clove oil is packed into the socket which immediately relieves the pain. It's quite miraculous. If you follow your oral surgeons instructions after an extraction you should have no problems.

Doc.

I won't say I feel your pain, since I've only had simple extractions done on two wisdom teeth, and not at the same time... the only recommendation I was given by my dentist was to rinse my mouth with lukewarm salt water after meals to make sure food bits don't get lodged in the socket.

Here's hoping you heal quickly!

I had nearly the same experience. At one point, they said they just can't give me any more due to toxicity and told me I'd have to come back the next day to finish.

Since then, I've gone to a dentist that does what he calls conscious sedation. He sets an IV.......and suddenly it's 8 hours later and he says he's done. You walk out feeling completely normal. No memory of what happened. No ill effects from the sedation. The thing is a miracle. Apparently you're half awake during the entire process. He can have you do move and what not, but the IV comes with a magical disassociative. Whatever pain you experienced during the procedure, there isn't even the slightest memory of when he takes the IV out.

That's the way to do it. He charges a pretty penny but the man is a miracle worker.

Doc.

Had several dry sockets after all 4 were removed on a Friday. Had to suffer all weekend. Went to see the Dr on Monday and after he packed the the sockets with the clove gauze, pain was gone in just about 10 minutes.

First thing they told me was No Straws. Any negative pressure will pull out the blood clots and dry sockets may develop.

Hang in there.

Had mine out when I was 19 too, was eating solids on the third day. In fact, when I woke up, I asked for something to eat, but they insisted I only eat custard.

But, we are made of stronger stuff down here in Australia. ;)

That's kinda how it happens with me on the nitrous. It didn't the first couple times, but recently, while having crown/bridgework done, the Doc will turn up the volume til I'm almost out.

Side note, I had to have a few shots deep in the roof of my mouth and one shot actually made my tear duct twitch and squirt a tear out of my eye. crazy!
