Hurricane Harvey Contest - H-Town Edition

I will never understand you guys. There are 1 million places to live away from hurricanes, tornados, earthquakes, volcanoes. So confusing to me.

I hope the best for every single one of ya.

And now the Corps is opening the flood gates on two dams with appropriate warning to the closest cities. If you read the article, they had to or risk even worse consequences ( although it's hard to imagine what could be worse than the present ).

Yes, we have two reservoirs that meter water flowing into Buffalo Bayou. BB runs through the middle of downtown to the ship channel.
The watersheds are full and if they rupture the results would be beyond devastating.

It looks devastating now, hope you're safe and away from any danger. I just read an article that said Houston and the area, are expecting another 15 - 30 inches of rain.

Stay safe.

Thanks.

Not sure how much more we can handle.

Mom and dad got over half a foot in their house. The creek on the backside of their neighborhood is almost 10' out of the banks.

Now we have this supersaturated ground and the wind has decided to kick up. No telling how many trees will fall over.

Blue skies today. Contest is done.
East of us is dealing with the rain, and I hope it doesn't treat them the way it treated us.
We will have to deal with the widespread flooding from the rivers and reservoirs in the next several weeks to months to come, and the cleanup is going to suck.
However, we are Texas Strong and don't let shit like this slow us down. We will re-build and carry on.

So that was 5 days rain.

The link to IAH in the first post showed 0.89, 13.43, 10.75, 5.28, and 0.91 inches of rain per day (31.26" total)

Never lost power.

5+31.26+0= 36.26

@Nihon_Ni is the winner at 9+24+2= 35.

Send me your address, and I will get some Bayou Flavored White Owls in the mail to you....as soon as the post offices get back online. I'll update thread when the prize goes wheels up.

Holy cow! Never thought I had a chance after I made my guess and then listened to the news. I'm glad to hear you made it through the storm. It's really great to see the outpouring of aid from average citizens. Texas strong indeed!

BTW, soggy White Owls are my all time fav!! ;)
