OR Anejo #49

And this is where the problem comes in that was brought up in the other thread. You can call any cigar you want a "custom," but if it has a Cohiba band and you are calling it a "Cohiba Custom Perfecto," that just doesn't fly. If that were the case, I could roll a cigar and say I got it from a guy who has connections at a factory in Cuba. Anybody who knows anything about Cubans knows Cohiba does not make a perfecto, so it was never an issue about being an official production. The issue was if this was a custom Cohiba perfecto, implying it is a Cohiba blend. So, just because a cigar is a custom doesn't make it a fake, but in this case, calling it a fake is probably accurate.
Yeah, I agree. I don't buy that this was a one-time custom roll from a buddy who knows a buddy in the factory. Pure pride, or lack of knowledge, kept either of them from saying, "Ya know...maybe this is a fake..." Custom rolls are one thing, having a Johnny-O custom rolled perfecto is different than saying a perfecto custom rolled by Cohiba is legit, with a Cohiba band. It's common knowledge Cohiba doesn't make a perfecto.

Pride or lack of knowledge. Who knows... Or maybe the ability to say, "Look at me!" Either way, I don't think it's legit in this case. Those were warning signs then.

Only a smoker familiar with the Cohiba profile can say whether or not it is the Cohiba blend. If it is not, how is this any different than what good ol' VitaSea was peddling?

If you didn't pay for the bags, let it go.

I'm pretty sure Royal Bag sells them in bulk: http://www.royalbag.com/
If anyone has gotten them from this place, could you let me know where you found them on the site.. soooo many bags. I think I'm going to have a brain anuerysm.

SmokinJ recommended I post this here in hopes someone would know more about the piece..

edited to retract question....guess someone else noticed this as well before I did.

??? ??? ???

Now that this is over and done with, I feel confident in saying that the only thing I hate more than stupid people are dishonest/unscrupulous people.

I think it probably will not be over and done with until the parties involved get their money back. I hope they do, but I have my doubts, given the source. If they do not get their money back, I guess it is a lesson that they will have paid for dearly.

Of course then that means this guy will have all of these cigars back in his possession. I expect that at some time in the future, he will attempt to sell this product again if he does receive the cigars back.

Stay vigilant; do not buy product from someone you don't know, and if you're buying something rare, consult someone who has experience with it, and be sure to verify its provenance.

Yeah, I really meant, "Now that I can be sure that I don't get hit by crossfire,..."

Staying vigilant,

Hey Greg and Jim, not that I think they are, but are the cigars at least Anejos and Opie robos?

The cigars I have do appear to be Opus, just not OR Opus. I was thinking it might be a good idea to send a sample to Moki for him to look at if he would be so kind to do examine them. Then maybe he could post them on his website for reference. Just a thought.

On another note I want to state once again that I am the boob with my purchase. I too know where the other large buy before these was purchased from and because of that buy I assumed provenance on these Opus. My mistake and I also do not believe that Ed was up to anything shady I simply think he got excited about acquiring a batch of cigars that are tough to acquire, just as I did. I acted in haste and now must reep the backlash.

Jim

Follow your new found motto! I herfed with Ed a couple times. He's a high flier with powder to burn but not enough experience cache to tell an OR from a JFR. I tried to warn him about getting sucked in with fakes. He's new to cigars. You got caught with your hand on your ....! What's your excuse? Your statement above again points to the woe is me. Best to STFU

What was the purpose of this statement? Where do you get woe is me? I have done nothing but be fully accountable for mistake maybe you should go back through and read ALL my posts in this thread. Again I am not clear as to why you are singling me out here, but I hope you have a good day :).

Jim

Jim,
WYSIWYG. Take it for what it is. And I hope you have a good day :)

Joe

Edited to add: I reviewed your posts prior to me writing. Look at your profile, I visited you. :) This is why I made the statement.

I realize you visited me, but I still am not sure why you said "STFU" or "woe is me" ? It appeared a bit abrasive IMHO. I have never had any issues with you and have not cried one time about this entire fiasco. In fact all I have ever said is my mistake I should have been more careful with provenance and due diligence of the OR Opus.

You are entitled to your opinion, but I am also entitled to disagree and ask for clarification.

STFU is a term of endearment. You made a mistake, move on. No need to write how you must reap the backlash. In other words, act it rather than write it.

....for the love of all things. Would you guys take your stupid pissing match to PM and get your semantics sorted out?

I think the forum has has plenty of drama as of late. Rather than continue to pour gas on the coals, I'd like to think we'd all have some restraint and reflection going on.

As they say - one man's opinion - B.B.S.

Exactly my point and we already did take it to PM. :)

Best,

Yep,

All done. We can agree to disagree :).

I've herfed with both of you, and don't want to see this one go down that road.
