Hey guys,
Ever since I decided to unplug my frigidors due to electricity costs and irritating humidity swings from those compressor types, I've learned to use them as regular humidors. Then came the Igloo cooledor thing. All these work great at keeping humidity in the 65-68% range, however, my qualm was temperature, temperature, temperature! I have a small house, so keeping 2 frigidors and a large cooler, plus 3 desktops all upstairs in my bedroom would just not fit.

Then I saw Sboyajian's basement project which got me thinking. So, with a little cash,2 thumbs, the Internet, and a whole lot of confidance off I went to the hardware stores to build me an air conditioned humidor!

Hope you like the build, I'm definitely not a carpenter, and I did make a couple of boo-boos (like framing the door jamb flush with the studs, making drywall on the outside just a little more creative  )

I'm okay now with the AC being constantly on, it actually is pretty quiet in the garage (where I do most of my smoking) and I plan to drywall soon. It's holding at 71 degrees temperature (I can go colder, just starting out)and 68-70% humidity, but after reading the Avallo threads and de-humidifier threads PLUS keeping my beads in there I can adjust during summer or winter months here in the island. Once I contact CigarSolutions regarding pricing,I'll get a 2 canister unit to help during winter. From what I've learned from the threads, in a humid environment like mine, it's trying to pull humidity down even in an air conditioned room is the key.

Just wanted to say thank you to all the guys that have ever given advice (even those that don't post regularly or at all even )regarding their systems, I have learned a ton of stuff that I would not have known had I not joined CigarPass! I like those towers and cabinet furnitures you all have, but for now this will be satisfying to me. :)

Sorry for the mess, but here is the footprint of the room w/ 24" door. I made the outside at 3'x4'x8'

There's another boo-boo,I forgot to cut the bottom 2x4 out before I put the framed door in, but after thinking about it, I can just caulk the outside edge to keep any water spilled on the garage floor.

I installed the smallest AC I could find, a 5000 btu unit.Once balanced, it probably dripped a 1/4 cup water all day/night.

With moisture barrier all stapled inside and sheets of moisture resistant luann lining the walls from top to bottom and Great Stuff foam in all cracks.

Another pic of the luann surrounding the inside of the AC face and wall.

I installed teak vinyl flooring over the bare concrete floor, and yes, I sometimes smoke Cuban Honey's

And finally, I can migrate my stuff over to their new home, sell these chillers on Craigslust?, and get money to buy more cigars.............what a vicious cycle!

Dave. Again, please excuse the mess, I really don't live like that all the time :sign:

I like it!

Nice simple solution that you'll thank yourself for many years to come.

My ultimate solution is a walk-in. I have some skills, both thumbs, and enough tools (dagnabbit- really wanted a trip to lowes tool section)

After looking at some nice cabinets, on line, I've come to the conclusion that cost wise, a walk-in offers more bang for the buck if portability isn't an issue. .

$40 for the case of Passion Orange?
LOL  You must have drank that either by visiting or living here? My sons friend from San Diego always gets some from us when his ship is passing through.

Morning Dan! Hope the water was warm for your sponge bath and you aren't harassing the nurses or they'll restrain you again :sign:

Glad you like it, I outgrew every storage solution so far (thanks to CP!) and this actually kept me busy as I LOVE using tools and working with wood. It somehow makes me feel connnected to create something.

I love wandering around tool sections too, hell, my wife tells my daughter to hold my hand in Sears just to keep me from wasting precious shopping time in the tool aisle :sign:
I used to put my daughter on my engine when I'd fix my truck, but she turned into a girly-girl now, (sigh)gotta love 'em!

That looks sweet. I want to make a walk in, in the future. You will have tons of space now!

C'mon bro! That's not a walk-in, that's a "lean-in". You've got some extra space down there, I can see it. Go big or go home. Err..well, you get the idea.

I kid, I kid. Nice set-up you've got going. I like the teak flooring.

That is very nice. If I wasn't such a gypsy I would look at something like that. I will just have to stick to the Vino's!
Very nice job thanks for the pics.

Oh now those last set of pic's was playing dirty; and I mean playing DIRTY. :p

No if we can get Souldog and Q-The-Cop to look the other way (I'm sure there will be a bribe involved), we can make a raid.

Very nice room, VERY nice sticks.

Yeah, I lived in Honolulu for 7 years before I was displaced to Viginia. It's the little things like Hawaiian Sun, 7/11 musubi, and Leonard's that I miss the most.

HOLY CRAP! I love that last pic of all the Illusiones...they are damn good, eh? :)

Does that hygrometer say 81 degrees?

That's the temp in the garage before the AC went on. Notice the RH too? I have a handful of hygrometers all in different heights, now they all read 71 deg/65-68% RH. Crazy, huh? No beetles though. Now I'm sleeping better at night! YESSSSSSSSS

Leonard's Malasadas (portuguese donuts)! You know just how to kill a case of the "sweet tooth"! I bet they don't sell a lot of SPAM there Mr Matt the Flyin' Hawaiian!

 They even got their own special shelf they're that good! Haven't had a bad one yet! I can envision the Padron and VSG guys doing :whistling:

Just a little worried when I seen it, sounds like you got it all under control.

It looks great I might have to do the same!

Hah, I'm working on spreading the word across VA about the goodness that is SPAM.

Awesome setup and awesome selection of smokes too

Thanks for the compliments everyone, I had an idea in my mind of what I'd like it to look like. Now that the interior is holding, the shelves and boxes are in I'm finding out there is lots of room that could use filling in. Hmmmmmmm, :whistling:

If SPAM doesn't suit them, maybe they like SCRAPPLE instead? I think they're similar, my "hanai" son(unofficially adopting a child) from South Philly seems to think so.

Nice job. sweet setup, great collection! Love them Illusiones!

The walkin closet in my home office/mancave in progress is about that size . . . 45" X 45" X 8' and I've been wanting to do something similar. Just can't seem to get anyone to come drop an A/C vent into it and run me an outlet for an Oasis yet. Yet. :whistling:

Got me all inspired now.
