I’ve been enjoying cigars since around 2004. My first real cigar memory goes back to my first deployment to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom, when my commander handed me a cigar after a stressful mission. We had a fire pit set up where folks could sit around, decompress, talk, and pass time after missions. That’s probably where cigars became more than just cigars to me — they became tied to conversation, reflection, and good company.

These days, I’d describe myself as a laid-back learner, curious explorer, lounge enjoyer, bargain hunter, and flavor chaser. I have my favorites, but I’m always open to trying something new and listening to the guys who have been doing this longer than me.

My favorite brand by far is Liga Privada, especially the Unico Serie from Drew Estate. I’m also a fan of Illusione, Arturo Fuente, Padron, Tatuaje, Caldwell, Roma Craft, La Aroma de Cuba, Crowned Heads, San Cristobal, Crux, Oliva, My Father, Aging Room, Warped, and quite a few others. ISOMs also have a very special place in my heart — I mean, humidor.

I tend to lean medium to full-bodied, darker wrappers, Maduro and Habano especially, though I do enjoy some sun-grown and Connecticut shade sticks too. I’m not usually chasing huge 60-ring cigars. I keep some budget-friendly “yard gars” around for working outside, but I definitely enjoy premium cigars and sampler packs when I want to mix things up.

I also keep a cigar Bible where I review and rate what I smoke. I enjoy chasing different notes — coffee, cocoa, pepper, leather, cedar, cream, earth, spice, sweetness, nuttiness, and whatever else shows up in the smoke. The one thing I don’t really reach for is infused/flavored cigars. Those usually end up in a separate humidor for guests who want to try something casual.

I’m here to connect with like-minded cigar folks, learn more, join some virtual herfs, maybe attend a few local herfs, and participate in some trades, passes, and the community side of things. Looking forward to good smokes, good conversation, and learning from the room.
